Lionheart goes pause and play
<strong>[Game -> Update]</strong>
Looks like <a href="http://lionheart.blackisle.com">Lionheart</a> will have a <b>pause and play</b> style system now, per <a href="http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.php?t=1190">this thread</a>. Here's what <b>Cabal</b> says about it:
<br>
<br><blockquote>This is a very large issue and something Black Isle and Reflexive didn't take lightly. We've always left open the possibility in our engine for an ingame pause and after extensive combat testing we've decided to implement the feature, for a number of reasons.
<br>
<br>As Wolf said, Lionheart's pause will allow you to stop the action of the game and survey the scene, look at your inventory, and prepare yourself for combat. You can equip a shield with fire resistance if you're about to meet a fiery creature, or put a potion of extra healing into your quickslot. However, you cannot queue actions or drink 10 potions while in pause.
<br>
<br>Here's an example of how a combat might go:
<br>
<br>I see a group of archers at the edge of the screen, so I pause the game and equip my bow and arrow, and place offensive and healing spells in the quick slot. I select 'head' on the critical targeting display, and then unpause the game and attack the enemy I want. After a few volleys, I pause again, and unequip my bow and arrow, and go to sword and shield, and place a potion of strength and healing in my quickslot. When I unpause, I drink a potion and rush in to attack. Pausing when necessary to change tactics or to be sure about my target.
<br>
<br>Hopefully, this comes as good news to the folks who were looking for some kind of pause to help slow down the action to their comfort level. </blockquote>
<br>
<br>Welp, that's that then.

You think that there'd be more solutions that implementing a half assed Pause and play system.
Slowing down the combat, Having quick slot item configuration macros, anything is better than a half assed pause and play system.
Next they'll have trouble coding NPC companion AI.
Instead of fixing the problem, they'll use a half assed work around such as giving full control to the player.
Way to clone the Infinity Engine, guys!

Didn't we¹ predict this was going to happen?
¹ By "we" I mean someone other than me, but I used a more general term in the hope I could be included in any given credit.

How about this shitheads - if you don't like it, don't USE IT.
It's a consideration for the great unwashed masses..I'd expect a "hardcore" mode where you can't use it actually, or at the very least a setting in options to turn it off.
Nothing wrong with mass market features as long as they're not forced on you, as this one isn't something you're obliged to use.

The game will be designed with that feature in mind. It'll be extremely difficult to play properly without pausing.
But doesn't the general gaming public and developers see that pause-n-play is just a crutch? Go full TB and then you'll have a real RPG. I'm seriously wondering what motivated BioWare to make BG real-time in the first place.

The thing is, my dear shithead, we wanted turn-based. Instead we get some pause and play feature (What a suprise) that will add a whole bunch of situations where you get surrounded by about 20 Skull-fuck lords or whatever. Yes, there's nothing wrong with a feature that's not forced on you, but this game will force it on you. Else why would they include it?Anonymous wrote:How about this shitheads - if you don't like it, don't USE IT.

Not that any of us will play the game...I think.
Besides, why would you care what a group of fans for FALLOUT think and flame us all for not liking the perfect system of slamming down space-bar every few seconds? This is a fan board for fallout, and I don't like the fact they keep shitting out crappy titles when all I want is FO3. Not SPACE-BAR DUNGUN ASAULT! or BALDURZ-GATE:TAKTICULS!
YEA SO CRY BACK 2 UR #BLACIYUL AND STUF OR I WONT GIV YO MOMMA HER THINGS! LOL
Could you play Baldur's Gate without pausing? I'd really doubt it. Mainly so because the game isn't designed to be played completely without pausing, and you'll often need to pause it to correct some stupid thing one of your party members is doing. That is, if you're using a script.Anonymous wrote:How about this shitheads - if you don't like it, don't USE IT.

So now that they are going to gear the game for RT+Pause, it will be a lot more than than just giving Diablo a pause function.
DF, it helps to know what you're talking about. As per usual, you're redefining clueless.

Well, the game was originally designed not to have the pause feature... Which probably means the maps are made with that in mind, using a bunch of monsters in areas with "empty areas" so you can heal your party and set up the next attack -- Well, if the map designer had any clue that's what would happen... But now they're switching over so new maps won't feature this yet older maps might still have these areas even if they no longer make sense. Although they still have the time to fix everything up there's always hints of changes of thoughs that way in games.
As for not using it, well, I'll still give it a whirl (specially if there's a demo) just to see how they "converted" the special system. Other then that I'll probably leave it alone.
