IPLY 3rd Quarter - They lost money
[Company -> Update]
I'm a week late on this, but here's the deal. Interplay lost money last quarter. They lost $1.8 million, in fact. Here's the <A href="http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/021119/detu ... release information. The good news is that they lost $20 million during this quarter last year.

For the third quarter ended September 30, 2002, the Company reported a net loss of $1.8 million, or ($.02) per share, compared to a net loss of $20.6 million, or ($.50) per share, in the same period last year. Net revenues for the third quarter 2002 were $9.7 million versus $3.8 million in the same period a year ago, an increase of 153 percent. Gross profit margin for the third quarter 2002 was 41 percent, compared to (199) percent in the third quarter of 2001. Finally, operating losses decreased 92 percent from the prior year to $1.4 million in the third quarter 2002 as compared to $19 million in the third quarter 2001.

For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2002, the Company reported net income of $20.5 million, or $.25 per share, compared to a net loss of $41.4 million, or ($1.16) per share, in the same period last year. The net income reported in the nine-month period of this year was primarily the result of the recording of a $28.8 million gain on the sale of Shiny Entertainment. Net revenues for the nine-month period ended September 30, 2002 were $37 million versus $34.9 million in the same period a year ago, an increase of 6 percent. Gross profit margin for the 2002 nine-month period was 44 percent, compared to 6 percent in the same period last year.

Of course, they're riding a net profit this year because they managed to sell off the publishing rights to NWN as well as the Shiny development house. So, basically, the only quarter of the year in which they didn't sell off assets, they lose money.

It's also important to note that IWD2 shipped in late August as well, so it's initial earnings are counted in this loss. SLAM DUNK!

IPLY.OB is currently riding at $0.10/share, as well.

Kinda puts to shame their claim of "making shit now to make great games later". It doesn't quite work when no-one buys your shit.Saint_Proverbius wrote:It's also important to note that IWD2 shipped in late August as well, so it's initial earnings are counted in this loss. SLAM DUNK!

Well, I think they overestimated the sales they would get from IWD2 all along. I never thought it'd be the SLAM DUNK! Feargus said it would be.DarkUnderlord wrote:Kinda puts to shame their claim of "making shit now to make great games later". It doesn't quite work when no-one buys your shit.
