Fun on the IPLY forums!
<strong>[Game -> Update]</strong>
Oh, cheery, cheery things. <A href="http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.p ... 5330">This reply</a>:
<br>
<br><blockquote>Well, we are the roleplaying division of Interplay, so it makes sense to only make roleplaying games at BIS.
<br>
<br>Now, on a personal level, I would like to make a FPS, but with very light RPG elements. Where, you might ask, would this FPS take place? Why, in the Fallout universe, that's where. But this is just a fantasy of mine...</blockquote>
<br>
<br>Believe it or not.. That <a href="http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.p ... ">reply</a> was made in response, by a <A href="http://www.blackisle.com">BIS</a> developer, to a <a href="http://forums.interplay.com/viewtopic.p ... >thread</a> about how <a href="http://www.blackisle.com">BIS</a>'s "RPGs" are getting tedious.
<br>
<br>The solution is obvious <b>LESS ROLEPLAYING, MORE ACTION</b>!

It certainly makes me wonder what they look for in employees. How the fuck someone that stupid got hired by a CRPG developer is beyond me.
"You guys are CRPG developers, right?"
"Yeah."
"Less make action games with existing licenses that have LESS ROLEPLAYING!"
I'm surprised they don't make him wear a helmet at work, just to protect what little brain the guy has left.

Hey, there's a lovely brain-donor on that thread by the name of Subedii I'm going to reply to here. I really don't want to bother signing up for that forum, giving it changes every 4 months or so:
For calling SS2 and DE in-depth RPGs, that might apply...if you were talking about the usual Inbred Engine trash.
You also have no clue what happens in cross-genre movement. Does X-Com ring a bell? Of course, Ultima Underworld could be brought up, yet BIS isn't exactly with Origin's money, or for that matter, their talent.
BIS does, too. They have the talent to make tables 1' thick. And you want to entrust them with an entirely different presentation that they have no evident experience in?
And then I'm not even going to touch on Dragon Lord Jones' post. That's just far too self-evident.
Yeah, and how much game development have you done? I'm guessing "none". I'm also guessing that is how much involvement in the gaming industry you have as well.Err, how much game developement haveyou done exactly? If implemented correctly, a first person perspective Fallout could be really good. There's no harm in innovation, After all, System Shock 2 and Deus Ex were both very in-depth RPG's, and despite the fact that they were both 3D, had very unique styles too.

And those with a clue would keep them from making such erronious designs. Remember, Origin had talent.In any case, he said that they weren't likely to try it until they had some more cash from other franchises that they could risk. This makes sense to me, after all, if they don't keep innovating with their products and trying new things then they're just going to stagnate in any case.

Changing it to first-person is not innovation, stupid.And yes, there have been imperfect results of attempting innovation (e.g. FO:T, although that was handled by something else), but I don't see why you should be so averse to a First Person game set in the Fallout universe.
Could they do it right? I'm trying not to laugh here. They are certainly no LGS or Spector. Editing maps for someone else's engine seems to be par for their abilities lately. Or, for that matter, ever.If they do it right, it could be great.
Just like FOT...which did amazingly...mediocre. The base CRPG has the best chance of a continued fan base. That is, if some sort of copy protection is used so it isn't warez'd to hell this time, again.It wouldn't be exactly like FO 1 or 2, but that's just because they'd be catering for a different market segment with an already established franchise.
Another one of your fine uneducated statements...That in itself is just good business sense. Look at Blizzard software, they're making Starcraft: Ghost for the Xbox. So far, it looks quite interesting.
No, I'm insulting you because you're an idiot. Changing the view to FP is not innovation.If you're going to insult someone just because they want to innovate, then think of this:
Now this painfully shows that you have no clue what Fallout is. It's a mix of old-school CRPG and P&P style RPG. What it did was give it new life, I will agree.Without innovation , Fallout wouldn't have come out in the first place. I remember when it did, the RPG market was essentially stagnateing at the time. Fallout breathed new life into the genre, and now,
Wheee! Dungeon Siege!practically every company wants to do an RPG of some sort.
Too bad you didn't do that before you wrote that load of horseshit.Something to think about.
And then I'm not even going to touch on Dragon Lord Jones' post. That's just far too self-evident.

Ouch...Good answer, Saint.Saint Proverbius wrote:No, I'm doing it from your mom's backseat, baby!
Anyway, the fact Puuk didn't get fired from BIS after making such a statement makes me think (almost) everyone over there agrees with him.
No, really...
