Turned baed... That reminds me.. The only game I remember which implimented turned based in FPS (real 3d, not 3d as Eye of the Beholder and the like) is Might and Magic 6. It's problem however is that (as usual) the turn based implimentation was a bit screwed up and you ended up better fighting in real time. The problem lied in the "speed" difference between the creature(s) and you. If you didn't have the same value, the game "added" turns to the one with the greater speed. In real time this was seemless of course but in turned based it would often yield to turns added every 5 turns or whatnot and made it quite confusing to know how the battle would be layed out beforehand. Furthermore previous Might and Magics didn't play out like that. I stopped playing the Might and Magic series after my experience with the "FPS" version, so the last one I played was the 6th and they're now at 9 (I think). Another failure in my eyes.

Morrowind did a FPRPG pretty well, but it's always been in FPS. And combat is about as intresting as going onto #blackisle.
Fallout would be shit as a fps. Day of the mutants is already coming out, can't they be happy with that?
I don't think they are that skilled at 3d either. They probably couldn't model half the stuff in fallout without it looking like duke nukem 3d.
Now, going off this guys theory, fallout went 3d and first person. Of course, like gta, they'd have to abandon a lot of the original features and swap it with mass-market gimmicks. They'd probably add some shit like 'Realistic weather effects! You can actually feel how much this game is shit!' or 'Dynamic lighting! Now you can see shadows through walls and the spinning convulsing shadows a lot of people enjoy in a 3d world!'

Um...what? A majority of people didn't buy gta2 because it was almost exactly the same as the first, and the graphics were shit. 3/4 of the people who played gta3 haven't even played gta. And further going off this example, they'd have to make an entirely new engine AS WELL AS adding the gameplay of the first. And judging from fot and fo2, I'm not sure if they could pull it off.Things have to change, Take GTA if it had not taken the jump to 3rd person no one would have bought it ( like GTA2 )

GTA3 is a complet fuckup IMHO. First because the PC version is a horrible console port, and second because it lacks the multiplayer capability that made the first two games so much fun.
That, and the linearity. GTA2 had a wonderful system based on respect. GTA3 is a linear piece of shit with little freedom.

GTA3 is fun, but it's not as amazing as millions of people make it out to be. It's good in all categories. Kinda like Half Life. There's nothing ground breaking or innovative in either games. It's just the developers managed to slap something together that doesn't have any glaring problems. Still, I logged more hours in GTA1 because of the multiplayer. The graphics weren't great, and the sound kinda sucked (except the music), but it had kickass gameplay and an original idea. That's what is lacking in games nowadays. Everything is OK or good overall. Developers are scared to try something new.
ehh, I'm babbling. Gotta find some food..

Does BIS have no shame? It looks like good hardcore RPGs are going the way of the dodo bird. Flashier graphics and more axion? Bah, humbug.
>GTA2 was good and fun, with comical graphics, fun missions, and AMAZING environments - the streets was immersive and much bigger than those of GTA3. GTA3 is also fun, but it's not as funny and it takes on a whole different attitude. It has good music though.
>Half-Life, not innovative?? At the time, it had an great engine and graphics, chillin' sounds, and an amazing single player (though Valve may have fucked up the multiplayer a bit). I have to admit that the obsession behind CS and the related mods (except for Sven Co-op, yay) is a bit stupid, since most of them get boring quickly.

I agree. That, along with the great story-line is what made HL worth every penny I spent on it. And just to underline their dedication to their fans, they came out with that high-resolution package along with HL: Blue Shift a couple years ago... I can't wait for HL2!

Re: Eck.
Turn Based FPSer? I can see it now. You move forward until you run out of APs... then stand there and watch helplessly as the enemy comes up to you and smacks the shit out of you.Sgt. Silver wrote:... I guess turn-based is out of the question eh?
Wait, that sounds a lot like a MMORPG over a modem.

The guy that closed the thread isn`t a wanker. Now Hiro was nervous as hell, flaming and spiting, insulting everyone, in a panic to close the thread just to stop the massacre... quite childish. How well, maybe Puuk got the message, and that was the important goal to achieve.

Yeah, it's a damn shame that computers are here and now, never years ahead. I still have a non-MMX p166 that runs Quake3 at playable speeds, but the original Unreal + patches is a slideshow. There's nothing really great about Half Life's engine because it's just a tweaked version of Quake. Unreal was years ahead of it, which came out around the same time.
