MOST. IMPORTANT. Post Apoc. Movie. News. EVER!

Post by Killzig »

<strong>[ -> N/A]</strong>

Well Variety magazine broke the story today that our favorite wasteland warrior is coming back into fashion.

<blockquote>

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mel Gibson (news) will earn almost $25 million to return to the "Mad Max" franchise for a fourth time, Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety said in its Tuesday edition.

The $104 million project, called "Fury Road," will start shooting in Australia next May. The project is set up at Twentieth Century Fox, a unit of News Corp.'s Fox Entertainment Group Inc.

George Miller, who directed and co-wrote the first three films, will direct "Fury Road" from a script he has been crafting for the past three years, the paper said.

It did not reveal plot details other than to note that "Mad" Max Rockatansky will once again roam the lawless, post-apocalyptic Australian outback.

The "Mad Max" franchise kicked off in 1979, and was followed in 1981 by "Mad Max: The Road Warrior" and 1985 by "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome." Daily Variety noted that for all their iconic value, the trilogy grossed only $69 million at the U.S. box office.

Gibson, 46, whose films include the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, the Oscar-winning "Braveheart" and the comedy "What Women Want," scored a big hit this year with the supernatural thriller "Signs."

The article that started it all <a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... _gibson_dc" target=_blank>right here</a>, more coverage <a href="http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=14006" target=_blank>here</a>, and <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/12/ ... 35763.html" target=_blank>here</a>. Thanks to Kruddman and Mike Elder for sending us news. Though if you want Saint to post it you'll have to link back to <a href="http://www.tubgirl.com" target=_blank>RPG Codex</a> in some way or another. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller! And FUCK ME SIDEWAYS WITH A GODDAMNED SPORK, this is the best news I've had the honor/duty to post up on this site for at least a year.

And lo, he spake unto the masses, and it was good.

Only a real artist knows the actual anatomy of the terrible, or the physiology of fear - the exact sort of lines and proportions that connect up with latent instincts or heriditary memories of fright, and the proper colour contrasts and lighting effects to stir the dormant sense of strangeness.

Do you reckon that if this does well at the box office that Interplay may get all bandwagon-esque and give us FO3?

*Looks hopeful at the interplay marketing man, who goes "blub" and puts a nappy on his head before walking into a lamppost*

Oh dear, we don't have much to work with, do we? Sigh... :(

I would hope that a few other developers might get on the post-apocalyptic bandwagon and give Interplay a run for the money to make a good CRPG. But alas, everybody would probably make a PA GTA clone instead.

The official Mad Max game has been rumored for a couple years now. I have some info on it, but I won't share anything that isn't official.

Yeah, I already knew about that one. Ever hear of the old Sega game Outlander? it was originally the official Road Warrior game, but somewhere along the lines they lost the rights. Check it out. Your character looks a helluva lot like Max and the car you drive is similar to the V8 Interceptor. It's partially a first person driving game where you run down or gun down bikers with a sawed-off. The rest is a sidescroller of you walking through deserted towns fighting crazy people and shit.

Sounds cool, I'll have to check it out. All I have to do is wait for a couple of days for my vacation to begin and find myself an emu and a place to *ahem* legally acquire the rom(s) I (of course) already own.
