#6 first post, #2, #3 second post: WINNERS. You've got talent. Although I'm not a fan of Shirow (Black Magic 066 sucked, and so did some of his other stuff I saw), your stuff is much better looking, at least in my opinion.

Whoa! Ok so now that I've really started reading older posts and putting more time in here I am just blown out of the water every other day.
Briareos, you could do a lot worse than be inspired by Shirow.

BTW Ninja Penguin I would like to argue in favor of BM-66. In many areas it was ahead of it's time in several aspects, most outstanding was the fight sequence animation and as if that wasn't enough the weapon, vehicle and mecha design he explored at the time led into his later work with GItS. Seriouly Penguin, do you recall the scene where the army is trying to subdue the first of the BM units? The timing and choreography of the whole thing would've made John Wu or Tzu Hark proud. Added to the mini-climax when the unit self-destroys, its reactive armor skin shreding at the soldiers nearby, it still holds its own 16 years after it was released.

While I am greatly impressed by all of your designs Briareos, I am most intrigued by #4 I hope you get to finish it. Were you in any way inspired by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's "Venus Wars"? So very few fan arts include vehicles in them and this particular piece is very refreshing.

Pyro the Anime where the Briareos character appears is called "Appleseed" and it is post apocalyptic in nature, somewhat along the lines of Logan's Run or Bladerunner. Yes Briareos and his female partner are cops in this utopian city where conformism and goverment go hand in hand. Everyone has a place and a purpose; the wife of one of their fellow cops grows depresed with this state of affairs and takes her life, thereby convincing her widower husband that the system is flawed and needs to be brought down. He strikes an alliance with a cyborg-spy for another nation and helps him to hijack this ubber-tank with which the utopian city would be safe from all outside enemies. While the spy undertakes this mission the disgruntled cop sets out to shut down the AI that controls the workings of the city (think of a more benign version of Skynet). Go ahead and watch it if you get a chance it is entertaining and like many japanese sci-fi themed animation it is loaded with social commentary.
I still cringe when I think of the EVANGELION series *shiver*


Oh one last thing. Blue Pencil? Dude you cut me and cut me deep. Masterful quote, painful to bear. Writing is not really work, it might not require neither training nor talent. Writers are doomed to always stand in the shadow of artists, having many artists friends cough *Sideshowsteve* cough I've come to accept this as the price to pay for not being able to wield a pencil with anything but the same skill one can use silverware with.
