I admit, most of the features sound extremely promising. Especially the stuff with the NPCs and the 'rank'-related quests. But the fact that the Temple of Trials is being made harder doesn't appeal to me at all. It's bad enough that there was a Temple of Trials in Fallout 2 in the first place. One reason that it's bad is because it doesn't fit into the setting. The more important reason is that it makes it almost impossible for pro-speech characters to get out of there.

Tsk, tsk, Exitium... I always play as pro-speech characters. If you know how to build proper characters, it isn't a trick at all to get through the Temple of Trials.

I'd imagine living in a communist government for so long trains you to take what you can get. ;)

Excuse me? Proper characters? I just happen to be the kind of person who'd go through the game with a character that doesn't (if ever) kill anybody, just for the sake of seeing if it would work. It worked in Fallout. But characters like those just get thrown out of the gene pool in the Temple of Trials due to lack of strength or agility.

Hmm, what do you need strength for if you're playing a diplomat? And running away from the critters doesn't require that much agility either, I think it takes 3 AP to run away from an ant so that it can't attack you.

I don't understand why people complain about ToT being super-duper-difficult for diplomat characters. Sure you'll probably take a few hits, but still it's not what I'd call challenging.

There's at least three areas where you cannot run away from the ants. And with game difficulty on hard, with a diplomatic character, you have shit for fighting skills, so you can actually get pwned by a couple of ants.

A good mod for Fallout 2 would be a mod that removes all ants from the game :)

Maybe you can just turn the combat and game difficulty to wimpy/easy for the Temple of Trials area.
I liked the idea of needing some sort of a test, rite of passage before I was appointed with the task to return the holy GECK. If they were going to go tribal, might as well go all the way.
I just thought that there being a temple was kinda stupid. I mean, why are these tribals living in yurts, if they can build a huge temple. Or if they didn't build the temple, why can't they live inside it?
I didn't have too much trouble with my diplomatic sniper, who had horrible melee skills. He had Good Natured along with Gifted, which brought down the initial fighting skills very very low. Did have Aglity of 9, though so I could hit and run. Killed all the ants and scorps in the cave without a scratch.

I just tried it yesterday with hard difficulty & tough combat. Funny how I never noticed those areas you're talking about... so what do you mean?

You don't need to collect those spears and healing powder bags and other useless junk, just run to the end dude and convince him that you don't need to fight (or steal the key from him) - piece of cake. I think you get double experience points that way, too (600xp instead of 300xp or something).

Yeah, agreed. Especially the ants in Broken Hills were quite annoying.

There's at least three areas where you cannot run away from the ants.

By the way, there are these areas?
Then you enter the Temple, you must open the first door and close it over your back. On the end or the second map you must put the stone block and go to the next map. On the third map you must close the door over your back, too. So, you don't lose any HP. Look, if you play with a diplomatic character, you must think. If you play Fallout with intellect character, the game check your intelligence and make your game easely.
But in the Arroyo-Klamath mod you'll think yourself. If you won't - play with warrior.

And second thing. It's very strange for me, that all funs there talk a lot about the Temple of Trial etc.. The Temple is only 1/2 part of demo-version. There are quests and dialogs. I wanna hear what you think about it.

Not only will it overwrite your installation, Lasse, it will also delete your registry and cause flames to shoot out of your cd rom drive at approximately groin height.

How about a mod that removes the Temple of Trials altogether? Or has it been done already? Because it sounds like something dozens of people would have made by now.

I wouldn't mind that at all. The whole tribal setting was pretty lame starting point for Fallout 2 anyway. Temple of Trials is illogical, why would a group of dumb tribals build a huge obstacle course temple when they can't even properly grow crops? Temple of Trials is not even a good tutorial.

The tribal thing is cool (read Earth Abides, damn you!), but the Temple of Trials is garbage.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

If you wanna try skipping the temple, give this a go. Works for me.

I agree with Lasse here. Temple of Trials isn't hard at all, I've been through it several times with 5 STR and 5 AGI. Run away from the ants and open the doors, that's all you have to do.
