[Game -> Update]

In more slightly off topic, but I'll damned well post it anyway news, there's a demo available for I Was an Atomic Mutant, which is a game in which you play a large, nasty, mutant monster!

The game is an homage to 1950's B-Movie monsters! It's a fun arcade type game full of mayhem, action, and humor. In the game, YOU play a giant atomic mutant, with the goal of stomping and smashing everything in sight as you battle the puny humans for your life!

Ahhh.. Those wacky 1950s and their atomic culture.. Can we ever have too much?

The site is worth visiting if only for the trailers for the game alone.

Spotted this at Gone Gold.

Wow, even the graphics look very 1950's.Image

I do have to admit that Mechwarrior combined with 50's scifi is an interesting choice for a setting, but stomping and smashing everything in sight usually becomes boring after a while.

Astounding soundtrack! Ripped from "Mars attacks!" or something? I loved it.

Thanks for the link, Saint. The demo's pretty fun and there aren't enough "giant monster" games out there. Looks like this is a game to pick up one of these days.

Yeah, it is kind of fun, but that demo level was really easy and short and despite its length it still managed to get a little boring at the end. Oh well, it's a ValuSoft game, what can you expect?

Hey folks, I'm one of the developers of I Was an Atomic Mutant!

I'm just searching around, trying to see what the buzz is on our new game, and I spotted this board.

I'd like to thank you for your comments, and encourage you to post other thoughts, if you have them.

We're a small developer, with no marketing budget, so word of mouth
is really important, and any feedback that we get through forums like these is really appreciated.

It's great to see the fallout community take interest in our game.

I look forward to answering any questions you might have, and wherever else the forum may go............

I just have to ask this: where are the ValuSoft headquarters?

Hmmm, Kashluk. You can go to the Valusoft site and find that out.

*valusoft reputation problem detected* 8O

I'm aware that...ahem.....some people have problems with ValuSoft.

They've been good people to us.

I'm hoping our game can break the "valusoft curse"

You'll never know unless you visit www.atomicmutant.com
and check out the demo, shots, and trailers.

I humbly ask that you give it a look....

Fallout Junkie...man, that is a tough one. I suspect there are as many answers as there are companies.
In our case, we made a demo of our engine and art, and showed it around. We were in the right place at the right time, we really shopped it around for a long time with no bites. Then, the infamous "Head Games" took a chance on us and asked us to do an addon for Quake 2.
We were out of time and money, so we took the gig. The result was Juggernaut for Quake 2, a much-hated, but fairly good selling unauthorized addon. It gave us a little cash to keep going and keep pushing. Eventually, we landed the Harley Davidson racing games for Wizard Works, now Infogrames. Those did fairly well, and the ball was rolling......

Are you planning to do any more games around the 1950's theme? By the way, the music is great.

Vasikka....We've got a few wacky plans out there.

Not the least of which would be a sequel to this one.

The publisher doesn't usually do strange themed games like this one,
so if it does well, I suppose they'll want more. If not, sorry charlie.

It's all up to sales, so if you like what you see, go pick one up! (please!)

The music is by a hollywood up and comer named Michael Wandmacher.
He's got a website at www.michaelwandmacher.com

He recently did music for the commercials for Daredevil and Charlies Angels 2. He's supremely talented and we are lucky to have his contributions to the project. Thanks for pointing that out!

I bought that, still have it next to some old games in a drawer, it was ugly as hell but entertaining. I remember i bought it at the time because i didn`t had internet access, and i needed a FPS shooter to pass the lunch brakes. Still, good luck for that new project.

The Atomic Mutant game is retailing for $19.95, fresh baked, straight out of the oven! Nothing but the finest atomic ingredients!

Briosafreak...thanks for the Juggernaut comments. It sure did get a lot of smashing on the message boards, a lot of it to do with the fact that it was unauthorized. We did the best we could...in that case, they gave us, are you ready.....SIX WEEKS to make the durn thing. We set up cots and practically slept the whole time at the studio.

Yup. Six weeks. Four guys, and two other contributors.
A lot of the design was cribbed from our demo that we had created,
so it wasn't totally from scratch.

But, before that, I had never made a quake level. yeeehaww what a ride.
Some of the levels are mods of levels that we purchased from users on the net. Every level was extensively modified, and all textures were original.

Earlier, HeadGames had just gone out on the net and downloaded other
users levels, repackaged them and sold them. Ick. We couldn't do that, it wouldn't have said anything about us as game makers at all. (not that I'm sure that Juggernaut said anything, either..but it was a start)

Even now I break out in hives thinking about it....oh, yeah, I can't tell you what they paid, but if you knew, you wouldn't believe it. Let's just say that it didn't cover four guys for six weeks...
We did make "a little" royalty money eventually, which I'm pretty sure didn't bring us up to minimum wage even.
But, hey, it was a start, so I'm thankful for that!
