need help making sprites in paintshop

Hey all!. I have become interested in modding and am having problems following the instructions on making sprites in Spray's readfile. The problem is I have paintshop not photoshop and I cannot find comparable funtions.

Can someone really nice give me step by step instructions on how to create .raw files in paint ? Assume nothing, though I am PC literate I am a graphics newb. I'm running paint 7 I think.

Thanks to anyone willing to help. I'm mostly making guns from various pics on the net if that helps.

I am not sure if Paintshop will be able to do it, but there are some freeware programs that may do it. I think one good one is called GIMP. I haven't used it but it has the capabilities. You may have to hunt for the equivalent commands though.

Thanks for reply. I will try to get this GIMP. Does anyone else use anything other than photoshop to make sprites?
