Measurements
Hmm I'm getting a little forgetful in my old age but a floor tile is meant to be equal to 1.5m square and the weapons ranges are all in metres, yes?
Does anyone know what the passage of game time is in relation to real time. If you force start a map at dusk how long in real time before night falls? And in the entity editor are the effects of drugs measured in real time or game time?

Re: Measurements
Not sure about how big floor tiles are in "real life," but I know that one is 6x6 world units. To see how big a world unit is, just be in "Select" mode with "Use bounding box" selected. Point anywhere on the map, and you'll see a little green box above the cursor. That's a world unit.requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:Hmm I'm getting a little forgetful in my old age but a floor tile is meant to be equal to 1.5m square and the weapons ranges are all in metres, yes?
That said, I'm pretty sure that weapon ranges are in world units.
Ehhh......... dunno for sure, but I think that if you force start the map at hour 17, it'll be dark about 20 minutes later (i.e. 20 real minutes = 60 game minutes), so that'd be a 1:3 ratio (real:game).Req wrote:Does anyone know what the passage of game time is in relation to real time. Again, I'm not positive.

Game Time
I think they should have had time pass a little more quickly. Especially in multiplayer. Would have made characters with night vision perks, traits, etc.. more useful and/or less useful.
I know they made it go slow to preserve the effect of realism but it would have been much cooler if the game went along much faster than it does. Most missions can be done without the time of day changing. Would have been nice to see time go faster and special things happen at different times.
With that said, anyone know how to hack the engine and make the time go faster? Or know how to have a trigger or such speed it up?

That'd explain why I can't get my rifle ranges right, thanks. : )Max-Violence wrote: That said, I'm pretty sure that weapon ranges are in world units.
Ah I thought so, couldn't remember for sure. What about the addiction/drug effects are they 1:3 ratio as well?Max-Violence wrote: Ehhh......... dunno for sure, but I think that if you force start the map at hour 17, it'll be dark about 20 minutes later (i.e. 20 real minutes = 60 game minutes), so that'd be a 1:3 ratio (real:game).

Re: Measurements
According to the Editor ReadMe a World Unit is approximately 10cm, so a 6x6 tiles would be 0.6m x 0.6m. The weapon ranges are indeed in meters.requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:Hmm I'm getting a little forgetful in my old age but a floor tile is meant to be equal to 1.5m square and the weapons ranges are all in metres, yes?
If that were true a Sniper Rifle (Range: 50) would only be able to engage a target that was 8-1/3 tiles away and you can definitely shoot farther than that w/a Sniper Rifle. ;)Max-Violence wrote:That said, I'm pretty sure that weapon ranges are in world units.
Max is right about the passage of time, though. Between him, JJ86 and myself we once tried to figure it out and Ed Orman confirmed that game time flowed at roughly 3 times the pace of real time.

Re: Measurements
Hmm where did you see that? The only mention of real world measurements in the Editor Read Me I've found isOnTheBounce wrote:According to the Editor ReadMe a World Unit is approximately 10cm, so a 6x6 tiles would be 0.6m x 0.6m. The weapon ranges are indeed in meters.
1 Region (256World Units*25cm) = 6400cmRegions
- Each Mission Map is split into areas defined as Regions.
- A region is 256 World Units on a side (approximately 43 Floor Tiles)
- A World Unit is equal to 25cm in the real world, and is the smallest
measurement possible in the Level Editor.
1 Region = 43 Tiles
1 Tile = (6400/43) = 148.8cm
So if you set the effect of a drug to 1hr it should last for 20mins unless the character goes to the world map, Thanks.OnTheBounce wrote:Max is right about the passage of time, though. 1 out of 2 ain't bad, right? :)OTB wrote:Max is right about the passage of time, though.
Hmmm...The error-ridden editor ReadMe wrote:- A World Unit is equal to 25cm in the real world, and is the smallest

Actually, 1 tile = 6wu or 1.50cm given a wu is 25cm... the "aproximately 43 tiles" is because with 256wu (1 region) you can only have 256/6 tiles, or 42.67 tiles (rounded up to 43 in the documentation...)
It makes sense.
This means that a scoped rifle with a 50 range would actually have 50*4/6 tiles range, or about 33 tiles. Is this indeed true? [From a programmer perspective it's all sound stuff except I would have designed a tile system that goes 8x8 instead of 6x6 to avoid headaches, or maybe 4x4... heck, why not both?]

Re: Measurements
Damn. Sorry, I was going from memory. That's the passage I was thinking about, but I remembered it as 10cm vs. 25. :embarrased:Max-Violence wrote:Hmmm...The error-ridden editor ReadMe wrote:- A World Unit is equal to 25cm in the real world, and is the smallest

That actually makes more sense when you consider the size of most actors, too. Since they are 8 WU tall that would make them 2m tall at a scale of 25cm/WU. At 10cm/WU they would only be 0.8m, which is short even for a midget...
That sounds about right regarding the range of the weapons and it explains why a long time ago when I was pissing around w/weapon ranges I was miffed that a Laser Pistol wouldn't shoot a full 35 tiles, since its range was set at 35m. I wish I would have remembered that before I opened my mouth before. :lol:Red wrote:This means that a scoped rifle with a 50 range would actually have 50*4/6 tiles range, or about 33 tiles. Personally I'm glad we had this discussion. I will now think twice about the width of my streets since I know that 10 tiles = 15m, which is the range of many SMGs and shotguns on one setting or another...
