Advice on sprites

Post by seraglio »

I'm making out ok making sprites thanks to the advice here. One problem though is one of the images I want to make has a background the same color as the image. No matter how much I tinker with the sensitivity of the magic wand tool I cant get it to select just the gun.

Any advice? Or better yet any takers on trying to turn this image into a sprite for me? The image is Rheinhardt's gun from Blade 2:

Even if someone can just isolate the gun from the background it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I recommend hand-coloring an edge around the border of the gun. I always use that nasty shade of hot pink for my alpha channels. First I hand-color an edge, then I use the Paint Bucket to fill in the area outside of the edge. The Wand then has no problems selecting the area I want it to.

More or less same here. You can always try selecting pixel by pixel, a pain but I needed it for some precise cuts for tile working.
