The only way to play Stalker proper is on highest difficulty setting

The only time I ever turned it down was to get past the machine gun entering the Cordon, mainly because I didn't want to put up with that shit.

That machinegun was one of the worst fucking design decisions since Fallout 3.

It can be a real head ache, but when you manage to get past, you'll do it unscratched. I did.
