WHY TOTAL ANNIHILATION ROXORZ
A 'WHEN YOU'RE TOO BORED' THING

- hunderds of units
- sea, air, land, and undersea warfare
- en masse gameplay, small amount of micromanagement
- neverending resources
- idea of Commander
- destroyed units stay on the battlefield...
- ...and can be reclaimed...
- as well as other stuff(rocks, trees etc.)
- actually decent range of guns...
- ...and huge maps
- every type of unit you can think of
- three-dimensional _solid_ battlefield
- physics system
- units shoot while moving
- a few all-around commands of movement and shooting
- capturing
- '500 units patch' says it all
- nice music
- actually believable resourcing/production system
- interesting types of planets(maps)
- community is still alive
- slight differences between Core and Arm which you'll end always using
- 50 missions in single player
- terrain has bigger impact on units than 'you can pass/you can't pass'
- Did you know that this is list of features which modern RTS' usually don't have, and it's been 8 years since TA's release?

TA is the most enjoyable and well rounded RTS game I have ever played. I still play it, and it is smashing fun at LANs, especially so given the huge variety of quality fan made content. 'Tis a personal favourite of favourites. No elaboration necessary. D5it-m38 is, on this issue, quite and horribly wrong. :drunk:

Koki, I recently got hold of a game called Impossible Creatures. If you like TA, you'd love this one.

That's the game where you can mess around with animal genes and make new animals, eh? rhinolions and stuff

Ahhh, Relic. But I've heard that it's 'just' good. I guess it's time to try it.

IC sucked ass.

DoW used the same engine as IC. Make sure you get the free expansion pack for IC, it adds a lot.

DoW had such potential but it got exponentially more boring the more you played it.

I liked DoW, it was not bad, though you are right it has more potential than was realized. Have you tried any of the mods out?

I'm hoping the expansion will fix some of the issues. If it doesn't, then the sequel I am sure they are planning might do it. DoW seems to have been a surprise hit for them.

Yeah, DoW got a bit boring towards the end... There's not really that many different things to do.

The campaign wasn't so good, but the skirmish is fun if you play it online. The AI can be decent too.

The campaign didn't seem very complete to me. It left a lot of room for sequals and expansion packs. But, yeah, skirmishes were definitely fun.

I beat AI on Harder so it sucked. But there is some kind of AI-booster which supposedly makes you lose on Normal alrady.

You guys want a fun campaign, get Homeworld B)

Did you try any harder than that? You could try the Insane AI. Team games? Outnumbering you? Combinations of races? There's still plenty to do by that point.

The AI booster you metioned is beta, but does seem to be going well. If they ever get it to a more finished state, I'll probably try it.

Homeworld was great, but it's a very different game and I've played it enough to make it all too easy now.

HW2 was pretty shitty by comparison.

I didn't go insane, because comp cheats... more than usually, that is.
Well I probably would play more, but then I *ahem* can't patch my version, if you catch my meaning. So I didn't go all into it.

By the way, TA has AI booster too. I'll try it after I finish Contingency.

HW... dead hard for new players(Kadesh... 'nuff said), too easy if you know what's going on. But it's not as much normal play as Total Salvage. Ironically, it's even easier that way(With 17 Multibeam Frigates, what isn't?), but still fun like hell.

It's a shame you can't use the patches and try the mods, they are making some big changes to it with them. Perhaps there is some way to get them to work, or a "special" patch that is made to work with your version?

Eh, you can patch your game even if it's a copied version of it.

The last few levels of HW2 pushed me over the brink of insanity.

...Relics "adjusting" of DOW with patches-some of the issues that have cropped up are frankly amusing.

I have two patches(English/International), and BOTH say I have wrong version and simply won't even run. 1.3 is going out soon, and it's supposed to be all-in-one too, maybe that will work.

HW2 with it's 'dynamic difficulty' was amusing. Nothing like you with 6 Destroyers and 2 Battlecruisers versus enemy's 40 destroyers and 8 Battlecruisers, not even counting the frigates. Good thing that AI was so dumb that it was just sitting there.

Fez - I would figure the mods would be changed to the current version of the patch? Check them out.

You need to patch the game starting from a clean install, before applying the crack. So reinstall, patch and get a crack fro your version.
