You guys see Chinatown the movie, with Jack Nicholson? It ROCKS.

Yeah, that's a fantastic movie. Nicholson is great in it. Probably the best modern interpretation of the whole noir genre, and also a fantastic mystery.

Hey atoga, have you seen the Big Sleep? (either the 40's version or the 60's). I know that's the movie that the Big Lebowski (best movie ever) is based off of, so I've been thinkin about seeing it. I assume you're a fan of Film Noir.

Favourite band: Therion pretty much, but I like Skinny Puppy equally as much.
Favourite track/song (not necessarily by the same band): currently either 'An Arrow From The Sun' or 'Wings of the Hydra' or 'Fight Fire With Fire' all by Therion
Favourite film: Mad Max 2
Favourite game:Fallout of course, but I <3 the Total War games (all of them), Pirates/Sea Dogs/Tortuga, Dungeon Keeper series, Europa Universalis 2, Arcanum, Gothic 2, Avernum and GeneForge series and probably a few others

I've seen the original Big Sleep with Humphrey, and it's one of the best examples of film noir out there (next to Maltese Falcon). I'd suggest you see it. I'm not especially a fan of film noir, and I haven't most of the more cultish titles, but I do like the genre a great deal.

I'm actually writing (or supposed to be writing) a paper on Chinatown right at this very moment!
I can't say I dig The Bogart characters in movies like Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep. He's not very dimensional compared to neo-noir characters like JJ Gittes, Rick Deckard, and Lenny Shelby.

I'll agree with you there. Bogart's only merit is his jaded coolness.

Nicholson's character in China Town is totally dimensional. I love it! Speaking of old-school-type characters, have any of you seen Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke? That movie pwns bigtime.

Wow - I was totally "meh" about both Chinatown and The Big Sleep. I don't see anything particularly "dimensional" about Nicholson's character, either. He showed up, got his nose broken, slapped Faye Dunaway, solved a case, looked bored throughout. The Big Sleep was plain incomprehensible - I stopped paying attention to the plot about half an hour in.

If you want REALLY good noir, check out Gun Crazy, Double Indemnity, or The Asphalt Jungle.

You might have ADD, I suggest you check it out with your physician or get the hell stoned off a random drug, so we don't suffer from your mad taste disease or something.

I mean, shut up?

Speak for yourself. Clearly you weren't patient enough to read the rest of my post, where I mentioned other film noir movies that I really liked. Christ on a stick.

I think he was referring to the part where you said you lost interest after only 30 minutes.
