Can't go hunting with a pistol besides using a magnum, any thing else is impractical. You can say you'll keep it for self defense, but why not just use a regular shotgun? Handguns are easy to conceal and are, to my knowledge, the leading cause of weapon related fatalities in the US.

The .410 gge shotgun is universally recommended for home defense. But there ARE people who go hunting with pistols.
Me, I’d only hunt for food, and then only if the Fallout world came into being, so I’m NOT keeping them for hunting.

You can argue that guns don't kill people, but a handgun can't be used for anything other than a weapon against people in nearly every situation. No good will come from having one, so why have it?

Because having it sends a message to someone that might wish you ill- “Go start something with someone else.� (Or the simpler colloquialism “Peace Through Overwhelming firepower.�)

People don't know you have a pistol unless you go around telling people you've got one, otherwise it won't make a bit of difference in preventing a robbery, which usually happen during the day when most people aren't home anyway.
The logic you're using is spotty at best. Pistols are dangerous to everyone and can't be used for anything practically outside of killing people.

2) Can you name any other purpose for a handgun other than shooting people? I ask this because, I myself enjoy air rifles, and yes, should the gun laws be less restrctive in this country I'd own a real rifle. However, I wouldn't own a handgun. Rifles have lots of uses: hunting, target shooting, protecting farm animals from foxes/wolves etc, skeet shooting. Handguns were only designed to hurt people. You can try and use them for the other things mentioned, but c'mon, really.

That would be a .50 as anything larger is refered to as a cannon, though the Russian 12.7x108mm is often considered the largest machine gun round is often called a .51. It's really just a .50 round that is slightly longer.

So, basically, the Russian DShK would technically be considered the largest machine gun, but there's afew Russian machine guns that use the 12.7x108mm

Depends on how you define a 'Machine Gun'. The traditional way is to call everything above 20mm 'cannons', although the 20 mm autocannons aren't really anything else than oversized machine guns. So you could say that an automatic weapon that can fire in 'full-auto mode' and uses 19 mm caliber ammunition would in fact be the largest machine gun.

DShK's successor, NSV, is also a nice gun in that same manly 12,7x108mm caliber. It's part of the basic infantry equipment in FDR so I'm more than familiar with it myself.

DShK and NSV are both used as mounted weapons, but the crazy Russians found out in Chechenya that their basic infantry support weapons didn't pack enough punch, so they created Kord 12.7 - a manly 12,7x108 squad automatic weapon. Apparently, it works real fine against them guerrillas in semi-urban enviroments where you need to be both mobile and able to poke some holes in concrete buildings.
