I'd suggest trying out some of the endless freeware and shareware games. Most of them are of the "pick up and play" variety, so they wouldn't interfere with work and you could play them one day and forget them forever at no cost.

Yeah that's a good point, I just fancied something a little more interesting than a puzzle game or a shoot 'em up.

Silly man!
http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com has all the RPG goods you could want.
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/ is also a brilliant game that should last for approximately forever.

You could try some old retro remake games. You'll get everything from puzzle to strategy within that category.

Is Nethack the one with the map made out of letters or numbers?

Yarr, but you can get one with a new and improved graphics interface.

SLASH'EM and Gearhead! Both have options for graphical interfaces, so no need for ASCII letter screens.

Kingdom of Loathing is a good browser based RPG.

N.
I cannot reinforce how awesome N is.

N is great fun. Action/puzzle/platformer, with ninjas, lasers and robots. Perfect.

I just downloaded N... incredibly addictive. I've gotten some pretty funny deaths. You can die if you hit the wall or ceiling at a high enough velocity, just fyi.

I just realized there are 300 levels... endless hours omg!

Yes, the impact deaths are amusing. Then again they are all quite amusing in my opinion. So amusing in fact, that it can become difficult to concentrate on the game. I've finished it twice now, and it doesn't become much easier. Possibly the best platformer I've played in the last four years.

Yeah I saw the N recommendation but reflex games aren't the best option for me when I'm working all night and morning, Arcanum felt a bit too diablo like.

Yes, please try and limit the warez discussion - we run a legal site here...
....lol....
since you've only been around for about 2 years, I guess you can be forgiven...
Unless I've known you under a different name.

N is pretty cool, but is there a way to climb stuff? Some things will be up really high and I have no idea how to get there

for freeware games, I like Acid Play, you can find some retail games that have gone free on there too, so just poke around a little and try not to mind most of the shitty games
