oh come on Nico, this was too much? Well, you're one brave man to admit it. No irony implied.

I'm perfectly capable of stomaching movies that I find to be artsy, but that doesn't mean that I like them. I watch movies to be entertained. I GUESS. I'm not the kind of a chap who, if given a chance, will go on about how James Joyce's stuff is the epitome of literature in hope o' looking culturally refined in the eyes of certain pretentious twats. Maybe. :aiee:

Anyway, it was a fun movie that tried to be too deep for its own good.

Ghost dog wasn't deep at all, mango, that's why we're making fun of you D:

It was a simple movie, but it's about a subject that occidental ears usually find inacessible/deep/pretentious, etc.

essentially it's a film about values in people's lives, I guess. Gonna have to watch it again if this chit-chat developes into something more involved.

One of my most favorite movies of all time. I rather enjoyed it. Skillfully directed and I rather enjoyed the use of quotes that opened and closed parts of the movie.

I think Nico means that with all the monologues make it sound like its actually deep but really its pretty simple.

Bingo! That is my major complaint with Jarmusch films, he tries to provide the illusion that what he is talking about is some grand deep life changing shit when really it isn't anything special. Ever see Coffee and Cigarettes? Just awful. Dunno, listening to Jack White tell Meg about his Tesla Coil might be all well and dandy for you chaps but it's a might bit pretentious and awful to watch for me.

That is also why I hate that terrible jackass who made Pi and Requiem for a Dream. Just feels like they are trying to trick me into thinking i've just experienced something deep and earth shaking when in reality it was really pretty banal. Also Requiem felt like it was written by my high school wellness teacher.
my vocabulary skills is above you.

Well if you think it's shallow, can't you just enjoy it as a shallow movie? I can't really think of a film that is deep or mind blowing, so why hold those up as something that cinema isn't?

Pi was kinda... well, I don't know. It was strange, weird and not-so-great at times. But it served as entertainment. Requiem for a Dream, on the other hand, was an example of movies I really dig. Still not mind-blowing such as Dr. Strangelove, perhaps, but very good nevertheless.

I like all of the movies mentioned. Even if I didn't I'd still be entertained in some way as I can appreciate that they're well made or that there's something there. Even if you didn't like the story or message of Requiem, it was better than Trainspotting and the music was good so just fucking watch it alright >:(

trainspotting is good for the soul link you can feel with the protagonists if you find it hard to get a job and if you have this wild and self-destructive thing in your psyche.

other than that it's just a story of hesitating between a punk way of life and a yuppie way of life.

choose life!

several years after seeing this flick, I can say I'm happy I chose life.

ending *and* beginning
http://www.moviequotequiz.com/othersounds/Choose.wav

quotes from t-spotting http://www.generationterrorists.com/quo ... tting.html

also, if you've got the chance, read the book the film is based on. The film only covers selected parts of the book, ie. those related to Renton.

I liked Pi. Not for its artistic merits; it was just a fun movie.

Requiem for a Dream was about as profound as filming me frying eggs for breakfast, only with superb orchestral soundtrack, like I was killing babies or something. The subject of addiction is so horribly mundane, I just can't respect any film maker who would decide to use it as a theme for his movie.

I liked requiem for a dream better D:

Trainspotting was just eh...What? I didn't care about anything in the movie. I don't know if I did for Requiem but, it was good okay, I liked it, it was enjoyable, would watch again A++++ seller! And it's more interesting to discuss than trainspotting as people have more of a reaction to it, a stronger opinion.

well the way I see it Requiem wasn't bad, but felt.. far-fetched so to say, not genuine enough - as opposed to trainspotting, which also had great dialogues. (or monologues for that matter)
