Fallout 3, still no comment
Bah, stop whining about Bethesda. Okay maybe it won't be better than FO 1 and 2, but I really doubt it would have been better having Interplay do it. From what we've seen, Van Buren looked like shit. And Interplay didn't have the funding to allow all the necessary ressources to the dev team to make a good game anymore, and it was doomed to fail. J.E. Sawyer never did anything good, and the whole team stunk. Puuk anyone?
I say we're lucky Bethesda bought the license and not EA or Blizzard.

Troika's dead, and they didn't have any funding either. Their FO3, if ever released, would have been full of shitty bugs like Vampire and ToEE and apparently Arcanum(never played it). And by the look of their 3 games, Troika would have quickly turned FO3 into a hack n'slash game. Just take a look at Vampire's later missions.Koki wrote:Troika, foo'

Ahhhh, the great 4too graces this thread with one of his ever-insightful posts.
This lurker certainly misses your input, 4too. Smoking opium just isn't as fun without having one of your posts to read.

In case you haven't noticed, Bethesda's games are always full of shitty bugs (especially the exciting CTD kind).
And I'll take Bloodlines or Arcanum over Daggerfall or Morrowind any day.

Man, Fallout should be dead. End of story, anyone with half a shred of respect or who actually enjoyed the series would be insulted by an offering like this.
Clearly games these days cannot be made without making game-breaking concessions to the lowest common denominator, because for the most part the developers run by big companies have a bunch of swell guy wearing suits who are afraid to take a gamble and go with anything but a seemingly sure bet. Which means in the end, the games will fucking suck or at the very least, be an uninteresting disappointment to anyone without a third copy of the 21st chromosome.
If you enjoy transformer hentai or some shit, then clearly you have a perverse appetite for bastardizing things that either yourself or someone once enjoyed once upon a time, so you may end up liking the game. I don't want to remember Fallout in the same way I recall my disappointment for Morrowind.

I've never had any problem with Morrowind, no CTDs, no lag, nothing. Sure, it's wasn't a good game in my opinion, it didn't match with my tastes, but it was still somewhat quality.
Saying there was as much bugs in Morrowind as in Bloodlines really is blind loving for Tim Cain. Hey, the guy is good, he has ideas, good ones, but you gotta admit Troika has proven that they didn't have the ability to transform good ideas into good games.
And yes, of course I agree that FO3 is better off dead than in Bethesda's hands, but I still like it better there than in Troika's or EA's.

The thing is, they would get funding from anyone if they had FO3.S4ur0n27 wrote:Troika's dead, and they didn't have any funding either. Serious Business.
Interplay had it.
You also have to wonder, was it only the lack of money that rendered Troika's 3 games unplayable?
I seriously doubt Troika's ability to produce good games.
As for Morrowind, Walt, you may not like(I don't either) but it was still a well-made game, in it's genre. At least I think so.

Hell, like I said, for me, it wasn't packed with bugs. My system wasn't exactly high-end, and I had a smooth gaming experience. I never had any crashes.
The world was huge and detailed, cities were diversified, the character system is interesting, the lore is wonderful, the faction system was mostly good, the graphics were excellent, the quests were, until some point, good.
Now there's the fighting and the dialogue systems which I didn't like but I must admit it, they work.

I got CTDs about every 10 minutes (on 2 different computers) and a whole host of other, less serious bugs. Daggerfall dropped me into the Void about once per dungeon. I liked both games a lot as sandbox games, but they're light years away from what I would hope FO3 would be. Troika's games had their share of problems, but they're a lot closer to what a new Fallout should be. And I don't have any faith that Beth can turn around and create a game that would do the name justice. It's not in their background at all.
