No I know Troika died, and it was sad. Would've, could've, been nice if... that's all.

Yeah, a huge sprawling RPG in Dune, and I know there was an old Dune RPG-ish type game. I never played it though.

My wish with a DUNE RTS is that infantry played a bigger, badder role. I mean, reading the books, it was all about infantry. Sure, there were vehicles, artillery, ornithopters, all that, but I wanted infantry to be a bit tougher. So they actually acted like Sardakaur and not road kill for my hundreds of little tanks. Emperor felt too much like a test run for Red Alert 3 or something, with all the vehicles I mean.

But I'll give you the Mad Max bit. Light, sand buggy vehicles that excel in wasting infantry. That would be the shit.

The problem with RTS is that they tend to be 5% about strategy and 95% about acting in realtime.

For good combat strategy TB is the way to go.
Steel panthers is one of my personal favourites.

I disagree. Close Combat series and Total War games had a strong tactical presence(although the single-player suffered from balancing issues, making the Player superior 90% of the time). I don't see the time-flow as a factor at all. The most common problem in RTSs is the poor AI, which is why the missions are usually scripted instead of being dynamic. Another problem occurs when resources and basebuilding is included in the game. The focus of the game becomes optimization and timing instead of tactical manouvres. The actual battles are usually short and the outcome depends on sheer numbers.
Steel panthers is one of my personal favourites.

It's about time I started seeing "harvesters" on my screen again. Definitely a game of interest, I always liked Red Alert 2 a lot. But since EA took a hold and made stuff like Generals I went of RTS games. I'd like to see more 'muties' in this game, and a definite return of the subterrain transport. Hu-hah!
Although if Blizzard really are working on StarCraft 2, then that one will have my money, StarCraft is just cooler. Zerg incoming! :flamethrower:

Yes indeed, I'd like to see a Dune MMORPG, which would be pretty cool. Of course I haven’t given it much thought so maybe not... Anyway, I just think it would be cool to play as a Freeman and be cautious about finding water and avoiding nasty worm things.

EDIT: Some trailers here:

Try Blitzkrieg. 1 mission can take hours. Then you fuck up the last minutes. Drop the game for a day or two. Repeat.

I don't know what this thread is doing here but if I didn't reply in it yet, I'm just gonna say C&C 3 will suck.

CC Generals was about one of the best Strategie games ever. And from the looks of it, CC 3 will be even better in terms of graphics and gameplay.

ye that's the way I've always felt.

And as for RTS's, that 'Company of Heroes' wonder is reportedly, opinedly, probably the motherfucker out there.

It all depends on how well it's managed and what it's got to offer.
C&C Generals wasn't THAT bad, but I can't really say it was something comparable to one of the Fallout games (except the PS2 one, obviously). I dunno though-- the Red Alert series kicked ass, and that'd most likely be a guaranteed project.

I dunno. We'll just have to wait and see.

Nonetheless, we do know that someone put the boot to his kidneys. With enthusiasm.

Can only hope it was not a one off. :drunk:

Long story or short?

CC Generals had it aaaal.

I still have my post left in the gaming forum on NMA, check it out.

It had strategy.. lots of it. There was never one way to win, and no unit cap either for that matter.

The game always turned at some point and changed the entire match... sort of like the turn and river card in poker.

"turn and river card in poker"

eh?

You mean Joker when jokers are wild?

What is this strange "Poker" of which you speak?

Did someone make a CCG based on poker so you can buy special cards and chit?
