The only thing I hated in the movie was the ending... so Hollywood... and yet the book ends like that anyway!
POOPERSCOOPER wrote:outland.
Hmm, that reminds me of Zardoz. Utter Connery-in-diapers awesomeness.

Good call, love Cronenberg's stuff.

Science Fiction movies suck so you can only recommend the most pretentious one imaginable? (overrated)

does 12 Monkeys and CHildren of Men come on a recommendation? I've seen neither but I'm wondering if I should?

I rec 12 Monkeys (even if the ending is a little too spelled out) and La Jetee since it's the short 12 Monkeys was based on and it is absolutely brilliant. If you can find it and don't mind French subtitles (although the criterion collection release also has an english version for the true philistine) you might dig it.

Actually I really dig foreign film, so subtitles wouldn't bother me. Thanks!

What about escape from new york if it hasn't already been said. It's kinda post-apocalyptic?

Then check out Sans Soleil and Alphaville as well. Both French, both brilliant. Also in Alphaville Eddie Constantine plays a devilish pervesion of the American private eye stereotype and Anna Karena is as gorgeous as ever. Nice.

Italian science fiction is pure b-movie dynamite.
