im not going to GAME or whatever in case a cute girl saw me and it would ruin my entire life as i would pop a boner and only 12 year old kids would be there and my boner would end up in some kids hair or something i dont know. ill try tesco and if that doesnt work ill probably just buy some cigarettes and crisps and walk home. its either that or watch house

dude, dont whine GAME is a fucking awesome shop i went to like 5 of them when i was in the UK, cheap specials, i bought 8 games when i was there.
I am 23 and i look like i am father time, so try not to get any boner juice in my beard. Missed a fucking excellent deal on buying a collectors edition of darwinia.
I would give up my chances with a girl for prices that fucking good.

It's cool. There's always that vampire larp on friday nights to look forward to.Smiley wrote:My pre-order has been cancelled since EB aren't receiving as many copies as they originally anticipated.
Considering that GTA was the main sellpoint for me getting a PS3, I'm, to put it mildly, pissed.

ok here is a blow by literal blow account almost
i set off walking and straight away i found £2 on the floor, so that was top notch. i walked into town, but i live in a ruralish area so theres a lot of trees and it smelt nice and i patted a dogs head. i figured id go to tesco first since itd be quiet, but as i got on the escalator thing this fat guy asked me if i was buying gta4, and not to bother because theyd sold out. but he was on an escalator going the other way so by the end we were just shouting about GEE TEE AYE FOWA.
then i went to gamestation, which isnt like game because rabidpeanut hasnt tainted it with his positive reviews. there were about 40 chavs in there, which was quite interesting. they were giving out tickets and you had to go que up and they said the numbers, you went to pick it up. a guy who works in a pub i go to quite a bit came in and we talked a bit, then i just turned my back on him because i was getting sleepy. people kept trading in big stacks of games and only getting a bit of money for them so it took a while, but i managed to get it after waiting 15 minutes? then i walked home and spent the money i found on a can of coke and some cigs.
overall it was a nice walk with some waiting in between. i could also smell feet in gamestation and wasnt sure if it was my feet or just people who go to midnight openings for computer games. and the game is good so far as well.

Any reason for you to take a shot at me?
Picked it up in a general electronic shop, when I walked back past the EB shop it was chuck full of kids trying to get it from a couple of stressed out guys who had to tell everyone that they were sold out.
And the shop I got it from had stacks of it, go figure.
TLDR VERSION
It's good.
Tried it for an hour or so, here are initial experiences:
I'm a bit surprised at how badly the cars initially handle.
Just comming out from San Andreas on the PC where I had excellent control of everything, it's a bitch to get used to the controller again.
Driving in this game is a bit... I don't know, too realistic considering it's GTA.
If you bump into anyone (barely scratch), windows crack, your bumper falls off and if you crash into anyone or anything the whole thing just gets wrecked with all glass blowing out and stuff falling off all over. It's almost too much.
I've stolen a few cars and so far they all feel pretty slow and handle like a boat.. you can't really tap the brake when turning, and using the handbrake almost sends you spinning with 5kph..
It takes getting used to, but this seems like a really weird thing to focus on. You can't run down poles or signs anymore, passing a red light makes everyone honk or shout at you, which is pretty realistic, and really annoying because you're obviously breaking all the rules all the time, and the constant honking is too much. (police cars briefly turn on their sirens to warn you. haven't gotten any stars for driving horribly though)
Now, having ripped on the driving there are a few things to keep in mind;
I fucking suck at driving with a controller. I've completely forgotten all about it, and I spend more time adjusting the camera angle to actually see where I'm driving, than trying to angle through corners.
On the PC, no problem, I have the mouse for that and it feels completely natural.
Melee combat has some combos and is a game in itself.
With the other guys you could just punch through anyone, but here you have to watch your opponent, try to dodge, make combos.
When I fought a guy with a knife, it got a bit more advanced/difficult since the guy took out a good quarter of your HP with it.
It was pretty fun, not too difficult. I think it's a bit strange though, because again, they complicate and make the game more realistic, which is kinda the direct opposite of what I expected.
I'm pretty sure that as soon as I get a handgun, It'll be more simple and a lot more fun.
I'm pretty impressed over the graphics.. they're just.. wow man. The details they've put into not only cars, people and buildings, but the interior of places is just fantastic.
To me it strikes me of a game that didn't just sell out and milk the franchise, it looks like a game where they genuinly wanted to make something they could be really proud of, and the mix of that, with a huge budget makes an end product that has me believing that it was worth the full price of 600dkkr. (80 some Euro)
The best part so far is that there are multiple choices.. and apparently consequences.
I had the choice of go saving my cheap lying fatass of a cousin, or go on a date with some chick.
To which I chose the latter because it was closer.
Later the cousin calls and wants to be picked up from the hospital, asking if "it was at least some good tits that I dumped him for", and stating that if he was in the same situation that he'd have a hard time choosing, as well.
Initially I didn't know if I was making a choice, because I just got a quest marker on the map, so I thought I could go do it later.
So on the date you go bowling, which is alright in itself but skipping the actual contents of the date altogether wouldn't have bothered me.
The style is cool, the bowling hall had lots of euphemisms with their sign being two balls and a large pin in the middle. Their slogan being something like "We have the biggest balls around".
Visited a pretty gross diner later to get hitpoints after the combat, and the person behind the counter was really sarcastic, saying stuff like "try not to puke" when she gave me the burger.
/rant
I'm sure you all have your own impressions.
Just wanted to share what I thought of it so far.
I'd like to hear others on the driving, because it's f'ckin' hard... and if anyone knows of a different cameramode, like one actually sticking to the back of your car(!), please tell me how.

i would say the best part of buying it last night was definately the walking. usually i struggle walking in a straight line, and everytime i try to turn a corner i fall onto my chin. but i managed to use both feet in a bodacious 5/4 beat, making me a well fast runner. the smells last night were also really good. sometime i just liked to stand still and sniff up. the relative smorgasbord of nasal treats piss all over the smells i smelt when i walked around the night before. !!!!

I got it. Played most of night. It's good... the car contols are a bit whacky. In the other games I became a pro at it quickly. This game I just can't get a hold of. The motorcycles are the most maneuverable so far.
The handbrske instantly sends you into an uncontrollable spin. The story is good so far. Nothing that holds my attention too much. The dating and making friends aspect gets on my nerves. I honestly don't like it that much. Maybe it was all the hype wore me out, but not what I expevted. The driving pisses me off the most. Realism is great and all but... The cutscenes are really well done. The characters are all interesting but 5 hours in I don't know where its going.
Maybe the GTA thing has passed me by. The go-fetch missions bore me. I drive and kill someone, intimidate someone, drive and meet with some guy. I guess I let the hype get to me. I'll probably play through story mode but it doesn't really have that playground of destruction feel that the first two games had.
Oh and there are so many obstacles. Maybe I'm not in a gaming mood tonight. I mean everywhere I drive I'm bumping into something, and I am lucky to make 50mph before a turn comes and I have to slow to like 20 because there is no ability to pump the handbrake GENTLY. You press the handbrake and you are stopped immediately.
ok well word on the street is that it takes a bit longer for the game to get going than the first games. I'll take some tylenol and continue I guess.

Alright, DACers assemble. My gamertag's TurtleMan Lives. Don't ask, Dogmeatlives wasn't available.
Dogmeatlives wasn't available because I had the fucking account already for my original x-box. What a genius I turned out to be.

My roommate bought it on launch, played it for about two hours and proceeded to go back to WoW, so I picked it up and have played for a good 8 hours over the last two days.
Its really fun, a blast to play, but it is not nearly as good as most reviewers in the gaming "media" would have you believe, it has recieved far too many perfect scores than it deserves.
In my opinion, a perfect score should be reserved for a game that is not only exceptionally fun but also revolutionary in some way, and GTAIV doesn't really do anything that hasn't been done in the series before, with the exception of things like the cell phone and gaining trust with friends that really are just frivolous diversions.
It's not very different from others in the series, which isn't a bad thing by any means, and its still a great game, but its not even close to being one of the greatest games of all time as reviewers would have you believe.
