The only complaint I got about the fire and explosions is that when you go somewhere else for 10 minutes and come back, everything's completely untouched again. Not a single scratch on any building or a burned leaf to be seen. It kind of ruins the point of pillaging, at least for me.

No, both the negroes and the afrikaans respawn. They swarm all over the place like rats. So the guard post you've run over 50 times just keeps being rebuilt and reinforced.
