I lost a tattoo recently. Hot tar exploded around me and got on my arm where a tattoo was (still is I guess) but they covered it with a skin graft. Moral of the story... getting a tattoo is less painful than losing one.

I had a friend who had a tattoo done and he later discovered he was allergic to the ink. Couldn't afford the laser removal so after writing the guys from Miami Ink, they suggested a way to remove it and sold him the kit which was basically acid to take the ink out. He has this huge scar on his shoulder now that almost looks like a brand mixed with a tattoo (Since he only got the ink he was allergic to out).
Moral of that story? Have an artist do a test bed to see if you're allergic to the ink colors he's about to use. Red ink is what most people are allergic to, so it's worth checking out. That friend was allergic to red ink and another friend of mine was as well, BUT when his artist switched ink brands, he was fine. So I suppose that's the other good news.
