Don't optimize reactor wrote:Repairing Gecko's power plant prevented any further radioactivity from leaking into Vault City's groundwater.
Though this eased tensions between the two communities, they still maintain an uneasy truce.
Optimize the reactor wrote:Optimizing Gecko's reactor creates a power surplus in Gecko.
The Vault City council, unable to expand because of their limited power supply, yields to internal pressure and is forced to take over Gecko to control the reactor.
The peaceful ghouls of Gecko become slaves and spend the rest of their lives serving Vault City.
Ideal (broken) ending wrote:Optimizing Gecko's power plant became the first step in forging a spirit of cooperation between Gecko and Vault City.
Gecko's increased power production became instrumental in helping Vault City's expansion.
The harsh xenophobia of many of Vault City's leaders faded into obscurity while ghoul and human labored side-by-side to create a center of learning and tolerance where once had stood only enmity and distrust.
Retrospecivly I think that it's better that the ending is missing as I think the Fallout universe should keep the ghouls and normal humans hostile towards each other...

Ah, that's why I never got a
good ending for Gecko, whatever I tried to do. It's broken! Then I thought there was no good ending, kinda like Broken Hills. Damn those lazy developers.

Actually I got it. My little brother was playing and the ending went JUST like you wrote, Red! 8O The good ending for Gecko!
It's NOT broken. At least my russian disc's version isn't.
I've gotten the ending every time I've played myself. You have to optimize the plant and do some dialogue with The Brain and Councilor McGregor.
*** EDIT: ***
No, wait... Now I checked it with my bro's computer... Damn, it was the "don't optimize reactor" solution
Shite, did I really remember wrong? Or did I in fact accomplish the "ideal solution"???

i think that they should have been unified, that would be a cool place to go in FO3, and it wouldnt be as crappy as broken hills because it was more advanced

No, you rememebred wrong... There's not 1 but 2 bugs preventing then ending: the first is that the you never reach the speech node to offer Gecko help talking to that vault city guy once you've optimized the reactor. The second is that when you finish the game the script doesn't even check for that ending possibility.
Seeing both these mistakes makes me think they actually removed the ending rather then forgot to add it...

I usually don't even speak to Lynette. She's so biatch that everytime I see her my gun finger starts to itch and the knive suddenly feels better in my hand than in my backpack.
I've killed VC only once....but I enjoyed fully the Lynette-kill. That was hand to hand..
Oh, and once I blew her up with a plastic explosive.
Just don't even speak to her, it's unnecessary.

Just great. I didn't notice there was a second page of replies before writing mine...*sigh* I think I've forgotten to take my pills too.
Oh well.

Well, I really don't think Vault City could cure the ghouls i think the damage was irrevirsable and Mcgregor was using you so no citizen would have to go to Gecko and the lies and cover ups could continue(cough US government cough)

You can. I bought it in the general store there, cheerfully administered it on my character, delighted in the improved stats, and then realised that there must be another way of getting it. One that gives you xp. Cue in a trip to Vault City at this point... but yes, you can buy it in the tanker in San Fransisco.
Edit: And that would be any government, Nightkin. Non-US politicians are sneaky lying bastards as well.
