Why don't we have it on the ps2 while were at it? Sounds pleanty consolish.
The randomised locations is better, but not by much if you consider how the steal skill worked.

heheehe.... no, the ability to save and reload was one of the saving graces of the fallout series, without it the game shall surely crumble

This can be fixed by setting something like in FoT, when you try to unlock the door or disarm the trap - when it's impossible your char should inform you that this activity is definitly too difficult for him/her, then you can't even try. When it's possible but still difficult - he/she should warn you about that (in case you just want to unlock the door - your char should say that he/she might jam it). If it's almost certain that you'll succeed - then without saying anything, your char should just perform that activity.
This and randomized locations of the traps every time you reload the game should solve the problem of "try and reload" method of doing most of the things.
Generally more things in the game should be random i dunno

Hey if I want the lock jammed I'll JAM IT! so there
.
I don't like it when my char. tells me what I can and can't do. Just pisses me off.
And the idea was if the locations of the mines where randomized then it was basically a more tricky version of that one area in the temple of trials. Just save and walk, save and walk, save and walk, etc. Or if you wanted to disarm them then just save and disarm, etc. etc. Or you could just throw handgrenades or shoot them. Really would be more annoying then anything...
