Fallout Tactics runs fine with Wine and Linux.

You do need a quite powerful system (RAM and video card).

Fallout and Fallout 2 both work great on my XP computers w/o any problems

I have Windows versions of both games tho - I could install DOS Fallout but obviously I do not want to

Perhaps its not the xp like everyone is thinking, how many mb's does your computer have, or how many gb's or how fast is your processer. i think that is the problem.

Damnable luck, I got hold of Fallout (okay I downloaded it, I've already paid for the damn thing twice and I don't have it anymore) and whenever I get it the game crashes. I was in the caves and a rat bit me, bam, error message. I reload and head off to Shady Sands and blow what's his face's head off and then a dog bites me in the ass and bam she crashes again. What the fuck is wrong? I was getting ready to stay up all night playing Fallout once more and then the bastard dosn't work! I am never letting anyone borrow my games again.

Okay nevermind I got it fixed, I just went and got the 1.1 patch, even though the game is 1.1, perhaps something was corrupted, and just in time too, I just got finished watching Dr. Strangelove.

Okay now what about the colors going all screwy? I'd like to know what causes it and if it can be prevented. All of a sudden out of no where it starts to flicker with weird colors, and then it stops but some of the colors are different, like bright whites become purple for some reason.

thats never happend to me on either of my two computers and both of them run xp pro, you problem is most likey just a virus or maybe your monitor and or video card

It would happen on Fallout 2 also, usually right before the game crashed like when I would place explosives the colors would get funny and it would crash so I thought that's what was happening here too. It must be something to do with my video card or something because I took a screenshot and it's normal.

check your system requirments, maybe your computer is just too fast or too good. did you put your computer together or did the company you buy it from. did you add any installments like more mb's or another drive or something. sometimes when you do custom work on your pc things tend to go for worse especially games and dvd's and music. maybe thats the problem. otherwise i guess your pretty much screwed. sorry.

PS is that a pic of snake pliskin from escape from la and new york? it looks familiar.

No it's Maddox from www.maddox.xmission.com I havn't done anything to this computer, I don't know what's been done from it, I bought it off my freind, the only thing I did was add a new soundcard. The color change dosn't effect gameplay, it makes it difficult to read the numbers on the amount of money but it's just kind of annoying and ruins the mood when you see an adobe building with bigass purple splotches, and some of the animations get funny colors to them.

what i meant by that your pretty much screwed is that if you cant find the problem then you cant fix it, so you should also ask your friend if he had any problems or if he did custom work on it like adding a new graphics card or something.

custom jobs can stuff up but only when done by a person without the right knowledge but when done by somebody who has the right knowledge it can sometimes work out better than a store bought prebuilt. I build my computer from sratch and it only cost me about AU$1200 however a store bought prebuilt with the same specifications would have set me back about AU$2300, and my computer runs better than most of my friends computers that cost them abit more money.

yeah i know you know what i hate the most though, is when it says the computer is 256 mb's on the box, but when you do a system check it says total true mb's are like 248 mb's. i was so pissed i took it back to the store saying if you print its 256 mb's then thats what it should be, my dad started making a big fuss, so they said they would upgrade it to 512 mb's for free but they said that usually happens.

Never underestimate the power of complaining.

I figured it out, it would get freaky when I would I would switch between Fallout and Windows, I was playing it for a couple hours earlier without anything happening. I just can't switch from the game to other windows.

I haven't played F2 yet, but Fallout works reasonably well. The only problem I've encountered since I got it up and running was occasionally the game would crash if I did a specific task. For example: Whenver I killed dogmeat or started combat with dogmeat and left, the game would crash. No idea why.
