I loved Deus Ex. I really, really liked it. But I was quite disappointed at the way it handled the three endings. I expected every decision made along the course of the game to be taken into consideration when the game determines what ending takes place. Instead, you just make a single choice at the end of the game to determine which ending you take. Admittedly, those three endings are good, and which one you choose does change how you finish the game, but it was a bit of a letdown for me.
Hmm, DX gave you the illusion of freedom, too bad it broke easily if you tried to fuck around, e.g. I couldn't finish one mission because I had done some shit I shouldn't have. And like Spazmo pointed out, the choices in the end were a bit useless as your former actions didn't affect the result at all. Why replay the game when you can just reload the last savegame to see all the endings? Though even if it was nothing but a decent FPS with a few RPG elements, I liked the game.ungod wrote:There's always multiple ways to accomplish each task and the end gives you the decision of how the world will be run in the future.
Heh, I thought he (why do I need to name him? Everyone calls him JC anyway...) was awfully cliché; leather jacket, sunglasses 24/7, übermacho and so on.Plus, the pc JC Denton is one bad mother.

I never managed to finish the game personally. My problem was that I killed (well, stunned until I found out I was on the "wrong" side... Something rather obious right from the start) every single ennemy and used every path I could to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I guess this approach eventually bored me. At some point I reinstalled my system and deleted the game to make some space (even though I didn't need it).
Long story short, the game wasn't great but it entertained me for a bit. Thankfully I got it free with my Sound Blaster Audigy.
BUt about multiple ways of doing things... If you do kill everyone and go everywhere you notice the choice they give you aren't that incredible either... "Sneak in sewers then snipe on rooftops then sneak in basement" or "Go in guns blazing" talk about choice. What was neat wasn't the multiple choice but rather the fact they added "sidequests" in the game adding a bit of content to the FPS.
