Says I'm missing some fonts, but which damn it??
This occurs, I believe, when you don't have FO2 installed before you install the mapper. To fix it, either install FO2 (or install it again) and then install the mapper (this is how I handled the error), or you can try altering the mapper2.cfg file yourself: try adding

critter_dat=H:\Games\BlackIsle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=H:\Games\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
master_dat=H:\Games\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=H:\Games\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data

(where the file paths point to the proper locations on your computer) to the [system] section of the mapper2.cfg - this should fix it, although I won't offer any guarantees as I haven't messed with the file much [Edit: any, really, so there might be more you need to add, or this might not work, or..]..

Has anyone tried to use fallout 1 maps with this? I want to know if they're compatible.
Without evil there would be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes!

Praise be!

Now to reach a decision...do I shit-can all of the hours, days, weeks and months of work I have sunk into FoT modding and get to work on something with this?

Decisions, decisions...

That's pretty damned funny. Interplay's just not smart enough to leave well enough alone. They hold back the editors, then once released, they figure we'll be appeased somehow so they can go on pimping their shitfest console title.

Thanks to this I was ready to abandon my efforts to make a Post Apocalyptic mod for Neverwinter Nights but while looking about after a couple of months of creative block I have found a whole shit-load of new stuff to put into it including modern clothes, buildings and lo-and-behold GUNS! Now as soon as Im done with this Ill get right on the Fallout 2 editors.

I really don't think so.

You realise they still use the audio player and the video player in their later games?

And Tim still uses pretty much the same DAT format though he release his own dat "handler" for arcanum anyway...

Source code is very unlikely, Max. Very.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Hot damn... BRILLIANT news!

Hopefully we'll be able to make modular 'plug in' maps that we can all use with each others'. We need some fine upstanding people to co-ordinate a centralised map depot...

Yeah, yeah, I know. One step at a time. :)

It's rather futile to make a "map collective" since the maps need to fit together to be worth anything.

We could come up with either a standard for assigning new maps but then what happens when we're out of slots?

Another solution would be to create a program that would take all the maps and merge them properly into the game, but well, maybe if some other programmer's interested, as I'm not.

I've extracted the Fallout 1 maps and stuck them in the FO2 map folder, I can open them up in the editor but I haven't tried replacing FO2 maps yet.

Two main reasons are,

Some of the artwork was replaced in FO2 so maps like the Cathedral look like garbage, the upper sections have been replaced by either the gecko powerplant or the oil rig artwork, I haven't worked out which yet.

In the maps that do open up okay, the critters are all messed up. For example I've looked at the Brotherhood bunker, and some of the Paladins say they're mother deathclaws etc. So I think you'd need to delete all the critters and some of the items and then repopulate the map.

Wow, Interplay is actually doing something right for once. Ok, I take back all of the bad things I've said about FO:BOS, I'm sure it will be an excellent game or something....
