Back on topic, the computers I've owned are Commodore 64, 128D, C16, Vic 20, Amiga 500, I still have two Amiga 500's, plus my two pc's
The only consoles I have ever had and still own are two Amiga CD32 and an xbox
Much like the xbox the CD32 was a console that could turned into a semi-amgia, ppl still make compliation CD's for it, etc
My xbox is modded and I just recently got a 200Gb HDD and have been filling it with games, software, music and videos
And I have plenty of room left over!, not too mention being able to play xbox games and use it as a DVD player
All the software I need is free care of the internet, homebrew games, tools, emulation, region hacks, etc
Very soon it will be close to full with heaps of games and my fave filmclips and music, its not just a console, its a multimedia station
And doing this to mega$oft hardware is poetic justice to my commodore roots
Seeing as my main PC is slow and old, I can play xbox games/emulate older consoles/computer games
I also have a 56k modem so I can download S/VCD off the net and be able to play game, watch filmclips, DVD's or listen to music
Therefore, consoles can be good and I voted as such
Love them or love them, they are here to stay
What about arcade games and they're relationship with console and pc games?

I like your data, Steve, but I think I'll remain skeptical. Show me these hordes of gaming women and old men who game and I'll believe you. I'm guessing a lot of these figures fairly biased, however; a lot of women have bought The Sims, for example, but that doesn't mean they're large consumers of video games in general or that they take gaming that seriously. Same goes for a lot of casual gamers from all walks of life - they might buy a few games from one category - sports, sims, lame movie-spin-offs, whatever. All your statistics imply that there's a lot more casual gamers now. This will probably mean more sales for bigger, better-marketed titles, but disappointing results for small fry games in the face of the bigger ones. Eh, just an observation.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
Um, no your assessment of these averages isn't accurate. Plain and simple, demographic analysis based on a variety of averages accounts then for a total average, meaning, an average is an average. Either way, if a gamer is 29, REGARDLESS if he buys 1 game or 100, he's still 29. See the statistic emerging now? AGE, period. Be skeptical all you want, but its in print. At that point you're arguing to argue. Fact of the matter is that the 26 - 34 year olds represent the the adults that were around at the begining of gaming, in the late late 70's, early 80's who were highly influenced by the new medium, who are now the developers, reviewers and financially able to invest in industry. We are as old as the industry for the most part. We are the ones that are driving the industry. Everyone I have worked for and do work with are my age. This is very reasonable and easy to understand, so there's nothing else to say.atoga wrote:I like your data, Steve, but I think I'll remain skeptical. I have read reports like those EvoG linked, and besides that I've seen it myself in RL - I work at a storagefacility during summers and winters to get some extra cash when I hit school again fall/spring - and people btw the age of 20-50 are playing, and the hardcore crew over there, that is they are playing lots and lots of games, and buying plenty, even if the do the pirate thing as well - are all 30 + guys loving the action, sport and strategy genre.
some more examples.
My mom buys card games and puzzle games - being 49.
My aunt have just bought 3 games for the PC after playing some of the Sim games, loving it - 45 years of age.
My granpa is also deep into the card games, and is starting to learn Europa Universalis (2) - 67 years of age.
My uncle have always played strategy games and is the one besides me that helps to deal with everyone elses computer problems in the family - 48 years of age.
The pattern is there, and many of my fathers friends play games as well, given that some have been programmers since the 70s it might not be too suprising.
Now my fathers parents do not own a computer, nor do the play anygames - and I have no knowlage if the rest of the family on my fathers side do or not - besides my cusin thats a raver and do not play games to my knowlage. My mothers mom do not use their computer at all, and my father do not play (49) - my brother (21) did play games before, but mostly skates and watches movies nowdays.
and not to mention all the people at the school - all being 20 + and most of them do play games in some way, even those that are closer to 50 then to 49.

Is that a fact, huh. I'm just pointing out where the money is going. If that's skepticism, let's hope you're not on the recieving end. As you would put it, "cheers."EvoG wrote:Um, no your assessment of these averages isn't accurate. Huh? You were disputing my simple statistic of avg. age and adding stuff about where money is going. How does that work? Average AGE of gamers today is 29. Thats it. Not how many are black or white or gay or wealthy or casual or hardcore....whomever they are, they are 29 and are the majority. OBVIOUSLY you can factor a whole BUNCH of stuff...so yea, great, k.atoga wrote:Is that a fact, huh. I'm just pointing out where the money is going. As for being skeptical, YOU yourself said you were 'skeptical'...so yea...skeptical.
What does me being on the receiving end of your 'skepticism' have to do with anything? What does that even mean?
Why does it seem like we're fighting now over stupid shit?
And yes, as I do say nearly every post...Cheers :confused2:

Cheers ( as I always say )
Well, my first post here.
I must say I enjoy both PC games and console games for different reasons. PC games in my opinion are more intelligent, and less reliant on eye candy. I also only have the stock input devices on my laptop, so anything resembling a game that must be played with quick reactions are nearly impossible to play.
I like to play console games that are very cinematic, for example, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and Grand Theft Auto. Action and racing games always seem a little better on console as well.
