I forget where I read this (the SA forums, I think) but I believe you need to believe in a god of somesort and be recommended by a current member.

So are they holding the ark of the covenant, the excalibur and the holy grail in some underground vault or something? In United States? 'Cause that'd make a great tourist attraction.
Some of our orders claim to be. Ill not say if I am in that one or not, but I do have a keen interest in the Templars.

I have been a member for a few years. If you get to know a Mason well enough, and are dedicated, it should not be that hard.

If not, read Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco.
Seriously, joining the Masonic Order sounds almost profitable. The amount of people who were members that were involved in creating this America is staggering, and tons of influential/famous people were Freemasons too. I almost want to join, though my head tells me that crazy cults should be avoided. Here’s a list of people who were freemasons courtesy of the fantastic rotten.com
Not really a cult.....try it out if you want too. We could always use more "recruits". 2B1ASK1, remember that.

by recruits he means people to experiment on and sodomize. the masonic temples are so secretive they have to be a cult of alien worshiping sky maidens or some shit.

That is the best troll I have heard on the subject yet, but you forgot to put "peeing on the cross" as that was arguably a Templar tradition.

Scary, some woman at job is a Mason and tried to make me become one. Ugh.

Seriously, though, the first two things that pop in to my mind, when someone mentions freemasonry, are the relations to Jack the Ripper (legends?) & the kinky entrance exams.

Yo, my grandpa was one, does that give me any special extra perks as far as ease of joining? I've been wondering about it for a while, my grandpa was a pretty cool guy. All I know is we had to burn all his stuff when he died D: my grandma had signed oaths to or something.

Or what? They would've come and buried your family alive if you hadn't burned all his stuff?

I donno? I might not be here writing this otherwise :-! But I donno, she did make an oath to do it, signed stuff and all I guess, so if we didn't it could technically be illegal in that her contract would've been breached?

Yes. Signifigantly easier. Ask your grandmother about it, she could point you in the right direction (of people who knew your father and where Freemasons).

I am not famliar with that being part of some tradition among any of the rites. Sounds like a personal thing.

Funny. There is a theroy that Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon Cult, was killed because he gave away certain masonic secrets, and even ripped off everything from the Scottish rite for his new religion. He actually tried to call for help from other masons, with the words "Will anyone help the widow's son?"
