See, I've been following American major league sports for about 5 years now, and honestly I get sick of a lot of the "Extra" stuff that is focused on besides the game. I think this is why I became drawn to European soccer, because they play to *WIN*. These guys are pushing their bodies to the very limit, which is something you NEVER see in American sports, and was honestly quite refreshing to watch, and fun to root for.
(That's not to say I'm not going to watch every Giants game I can this season though)

I don't know too much about this incident myself, and am far too lazy to research it, but just judging from what you guys say about it I say he deserves his suspension. I mean really, if I walk up to some guy walking down the street next to me and cuff him on the back of the head and he goes down for the count with fractured vertibrae, memory loss, and deep facial cuts, and a concussion, regardless of past transgressions, I'm gonna be neck deep in shit and lawsuits, not to mention criminal hearings. I'm all for sports and such, but when the violence is the factor that makes it worth watching ... well ... I see something wrong with that. If you want violence that bad be a mercenary and go fight a war or petition to allow legal gladitorial combat, Roman style in America. Or Thunderdome. I'm a major fan of Thunderdome instead of lawsuits. That'll cut down on the moron factor a bit. Or at least for political office. That would make life interesting.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Mandalorian, shut up.
Hockey's no different, and don't try to tell me it is. You're wrong. And stupid.
Actually, there would be a game to watch. Is fighting allowed in basketball? Football? Golf? Tennis? No. No, it isn't. And do people watch those sports? Why, by gosh, they do!Mandalorian wrote:fighting is an aspect of hockey. without fights in hockey there wouldnt be much to watch.

haha i dont watch those sports. i wont go into why i dont watch those sports but thats because they are insanely boring to watch. hockey has had fights since it started. if you cant get pissed off and nail someone, there wouldnt be the huge rivalries there are today in the nhl.Subhuman wrote: Actually, there would be a game to watch. im afraid your sports references are nothing like hockey in the first place. you cant just run from across the playing area and nail your opponents into the boards legally in any other sport. golf and tennis dont involve teams and football is a bunch of fairies in padding, spankin each others asses and basketball is full of wankers. you cant even remotely compare hockey to any other sport other than maybe lacrosse. and even in lacrosse there are the odd fights.
see, the nhl board instituted an instigator rule so that if you take someones head off without the other guy wanting it, you get a suspension. if they hadnt implemented that rule and let the guys who need their ass kicked like the guy bertuzzi nailed, shit like this wouldnt happen.
if you dont like fights, dont fucking watch hockey. dont fucking bitch about hockey fights because they are part of the game. they have penalties for such circumstances. its a violent game so all you lightweight whiners can stop bitching for "OIMG SINFSINEINSNF STOPZOR THE FIGHTING".

I just find it funny how these idiots who never watch hockey are all of a sudden the world's greatest hockey analysts. Was the hit dirty? Yes, absolutely. Was it something unseen before in the world of north american hockey? No, absolutely not. In fact this is why I mostly only ever watch olympic hockey these days and my favorite team growing up was the Penguins. I'm getting off track, while I do think the suspension was fair I do take offense to Matt Lauer coming on TODAY the day after the altercation and acting like he's been sporting a mullet and drinking molsen since 1978. Give me a friggen break.
oh yeah and GO BRUINS. nice season they're having.
how about we talk about real issues in hockey, like how there won't be a season next year because there isn't any money to be made in playing it out?

The answer to your first question is shaddup.
I always liked Hockey, enough that I could call it my favorite sport.
How it sees more popularity than baseball is suprising.

I wasn't aware that there wouldn't be a hockey season next year. I would guess that the sport would gain a large amount of money, especially from Canadians. Is it really that bad?there won't be a season next year because there isn't any money to be made in playing it out?
Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

I've never watched Hockey on TV..I've been to a few games because for some reason I keep winning tickets (happens every year..somehow I win tickets to see hockey games..)...I'm not really a fan of the game. I went for the atmosphere and the alcohol.
If only midget tossing was a sport. I could enjoy watching that.

i never said the hit wasnt dirty. i just said people make grandious opinions on the violence of hockey based on the few cases that come out.Killzig wrote:I just find it funny how these idiots who never watch hockey are all of a sudden the world's greatest hockey analysts. of course he deserved a suspension but the guy he hit could come back for the playoffs; i saw it saturday night when the experts got together and talked after that embarassing leafs/montreal game. shittiest refereeing ive ever seen in a hockey game.
