Ugh I guess Jagged Alliance kinda counts.....ofcourse I always suggest that. You should be able to find Wildfire in stores still, which includes the original and the upgraded "Harder the shit" version. TOEE isn't that bad, but it's not exactly great. Atleast its better then Neverwinter Nights? Its also fairly cheap by this point.
Other then that, I can't really think of anything to suggest.

Anyone else remember that Torn game which got cancelled?
It Held some promise as I recall... and then... it went the way many promising games go. There was one thing that wasn't that promising... as I recall it was to be rather much combat in it.
Lemme see if I can dig up a link for thos of you (if there are any) who are interested....

Combat in itself isn't too bad but the option of not having TB might have made Torn less than palatable. IMHO, there is nothing as boring and predictible as TB melee combat. It seems that the biggest mistake BIS made was in trying to adapt an unproven technology. It would have been probably cheaper to have a custom engine designed than to modify Lithtech. Someone sold them down the river on that.
The most interesting thing I read was the "creationist ideology" of fantasy games. It may be the subconscious reason why I dislike the genre and the reason why it is popular with christian kids. Magic withstanding, it pushes players to rely on a supernatural power to help them succeed instead of the wonders of firepower technology. Technology isn't a religion except in *cough*ARCANUM*cough* which sucks in comparison to Fallout. Give me Dogmeat instead of magic, k?

There is something though.... Ive always been wondering how a fantasy game'd be in TB (Never played one).... aiming at the arm and *chop* off it goes... I can imagine it is rather amusing.
But indeed, rather boring.
The drawback with real time is that you loose the possibility to aim your punches/shots/chops.
When playing Fallout, I tried once with the Fast shot perk, but well.... not being able to aim reallyreally took much from combat.
And as far as Fantasy vs Sci-Fi/Firepower, I to must side with guns and ammo. And I for one cant see the charm with being a mage, I always play a Ranger or Fighter type of character in Fantasy games, but there always comes a point in any game when you thoughts go to your trusted Pancor Jackhammer...
One game that would have gotten much better wasnt for its crappy(realtime) combat is Another War... on the other hand... it wasnt good aside from some dark humour and some flirtaion with the 80's TV show "Allo 'Allo" ( http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0086659/ )
And one more thing, I must say that this particular part (of the Torn Interview) was rather fun:

GS: Torn was going to prominently feature the "Black Isle Studios" name in its title, presumably to try to further develop the BIS brand. Will future games similarly promote the Black Isle Studios as a brand?
FU: Uh, no. We had a new marketing department, and they weren't used to PC games and couldn't understand how we could sell Torn without any other sort of brand. They wanted to associate some brand with it. At one point, they wanted us to make it an "Arthurian legend" game--I think only because they could understand King Arthur as a discrete brand. Obviously that was a goofy idea, and I thought they were just suggesting it because they weren't taking the time to understand what we were doing.
But they kept suggesting ideas, and they finally suggested attaching the Black Isle brand so that the game would be called Black Isle's Torn--I think because at the time, there was American McGee's Alice on shelves. My opinion was that it was a dumb idea, but the marketing department said that if we made that change, they'd be happy and be behind our product, so we accepted it.

Wasn't there someone here who has played morrowind?
I am curious about this one thing.
Today, as I was tortting along happily, I came upon one of them ancestral tombs. So, I did as usual, drew my Sword and stepped in with spells flying and cursing my foes.
After a while I came upon this fella wearing some armour and a magic trollbone helm.
He started attacking me.
So, not prone to take shit from som ass, I slew him only to be greeted by a msg which said summit like:
"The death of this chracter has broken the threads of the prophecy, reload your latest save or persist in this doomed world you have created"
wtf was that all about???
Has this happened to any of you?
anyone?

He's not important. It's a glitch. If you play around with the editor you can see that there's a checkbox on every character that says "Important". If that's checked, then after the death of the character you will recieve that message. This guy with the helmet has nothing, absolutely NOTHING to do with the main quest. But he is 'checked'. Propably by accident.
You can kill him freely - his helm is in fact an artifact of some value. And, anyways, after you've completed the mainquest you don't need to care about that message anymore. I killed Vivec among other things. One of the easiest fights I've had on Morrowind. "A living God"... Pfft, I say.

Sadly, the steampunk genre is pretty much untapped. All people like is boring ol' fantasy and sci-fi dime novel games.
As Slavemaster (god bless) said, we really need an Old West CRPG or something.
Oh, and you could rationalize the GTAs or Mafia as RPGs, if you tried. But that's about it.

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
Nah, I'm pretty sure Slavemaster and I started the whole thing.
Oh, and I'd also love up a good cyberpunk Shadowrun-style CRPG. Wouldn't that be the ultimate?
