In MM1 the only guns were shotguns and a 9mm Mauser.
The 9mm Mauser appeared in all MM movies.
Shot guns are 'fairly common' in Australia, since farmers are allowed to have them. It's also 'fairly easy' to steal them.

Also, Max, a cop, had a sawn off shotty. Pretty dodgy, if you ask me.

HAHAHA it does... jeez. Well as per Dread's request, I have watched Mad Max almost every night for the last week and what an awesome movie.. I do like the RoadWarrior better but the chase scenes are just incredible. I could watch those interceptors race around for hours. Great stuff. It kinda sucks that the best chase in the movie happened in the first ten minutes (NightRider). The rest of the time it's just motorcycles pretty much.
