It depends which one you played first, methinks. The "OMG this game is teh utter coolage!!!1" factor wears off with each game in the series. I played Vice City first and it blew my mind, then I played GTA3 and the effect was much less pronounced. Same with San Andreas.

Naw, I played GTA3 first and I liked GTA2 better, but Vice City really was better, and SA is pretty cool too. More story and the missions are more interesting.

SA is fun though I think my game may be screwed. I enabled the world-slowdown cheat to get past one of those stupid 'z' missions, and saved the game, and now none of the girlfriends i had are ever in their houses, even if i wait there for days.

That's why you don't save with cheats.
Or, duh.

Since GTA 3, certain cheats have been known to royally fuck one's game, irrevocably so if saved over. Not nice, eh ? No.

World Of Warcraft. I've never played it but it is overrated. It has to be.
[\quote]
hmm I haven't heard any WoW hype, and to be honest, I think it's one of the more enjoyable mmo's out there. imo, the most common opinion is that the graphics are sucky, which is a gross misunderstanding.
So if anything, I'd say it's underrated.
But then again, I don't know what most of the US 11-year olds are saying.
And they're usually half the hype.
EQ 2 though... hmm =/ overrated according to an mmo-buddy I have, who's jumping ship from EQ 2 to WoW, but I'm sure it's a good game nonetheless...

Well I couldn't see a way to disable the slowdown cheat, so I just put in the speed up cheat to get the game back to its original speed. However, it's possible my game is fucked, I'm not sure. Does anyone know if girlfriends are supposed to be unavailable while you're doing Toreno's missions?

Halo is overrated.
I heard one time someone trying to tell me that the AI was actually good.
I've played it, albeit briefly. Having some little sawed off prick of an alien run towards me and throw an explosive at point blank that tosses him off a cliff, effectively killing itself is not exactly what I'd call great AI.
Nor would I consider an alien ship that strafes you in a canyon, only to not turn away at the last moment so they don't keep smashing into the canyon wall repeatedly without fail and thus destroying itself.
Halo is pretty much the heir apparent to Quake 2 in my opinion. It's that same kind of gameplay only they tossed in some vehicles and the same outdated 10 year old gameplay that Doom started out with.
Then again I have a pretty strong bias against games like that in general.
MMORPGS as a whole are overrated. They're nothing but wastes of both time and money. I'd include NWN into this only without the wasting of so much money rather than time.

Half-Life series has to be the most overrated ever.

I played counterstrike exclusively on LAN. Blargh, maybe if you got some friends, you'd be able to understand.

Even so, the performance of CS's weapons are so inexplicably dodgy that it still makes the game rather shitty in my mind. LAN or no LAN.

The thing about Half-Life is that it made popular the concept of having an involving, non-linear plot in an FPS. This was utterly mind-blowing back in 1998, even though it had been done before (*cough*SystemShock*cough*). Also, the AI was pretty damn good. Again, it was 1998.
So it's tempting to call HL overrated, but it really wasn't. HL2 is another story.

The original Half-Life's story didn't engage me at all, as I was too busy killing shit and blowing shit up. The reason? The story wasn't told so much as fought through.
As terrible a game as it is Command & Conquer: Renegade does a pretty good job of telling a story through a combination of cutscenes and relevant mission objectives.

It was there, perhaps you should have not been too busy killing shit and blowing shit so you'd have noticed it or something mabye perhaps ok.

Teatime - If GTA:SA is anything like GTA 3 or Vice City regarding cheats, slowdown/speedup almost certainly fuck things up. I can't be entirely sure however. Nor can I offer any input on Toreno's missions etc - I've been too busy killing things. The simple way to fix things if in doubt - restart. Frustrating perhaps, but it does work. Obviously, the GTA forums might be worth a look.

So hurtful. That said, your prior comments on this matter have no weight now, do they ? You played on LAN and avoided the twits, subtracted your presence as a 'well-mannered sophisticated intellectual' from the equation ; thereby exonerating your words of having any greater relevance to my own comment. Context. Nicely done.

Half Life had a non-linear plot? What the hell are you talking about, Avril? Whatever meager plot Half Life had is set in stone.

By "non-linear", I meant deeper than "point, shoot, kill, watch cutscene (optional), rinse, repeat", ala Doom or Quake. The story had twists and turns, like a movie. The plot was immersive, as it all happened while you were playing.
Wrong choice of words. What I meant was "complex".

See, the convention of language is that we use words where their agreed upon meaning is relevant. For instance, if I say "this banana is blue", but in my frame of reference, blue is yellow, well, that's a load of shit because blue is blue and yellow is yellow.
And Half Life didn't have a complex plot anyways. You unleashed aliens, people got killed, some mysterious man in a suit walked around pressing buttons. That was it.

I've got to agree with Spazmo, which I don't do often mind you, because Half-Life was in no way non-linear. Don't take me wrong, I loved HL. I still think it's far from overrated. But it's story was, like said, "set in stone". It had twists and turns. And it was entertaining. But it was *exactly the same, every single time you played it*.
It might've not been really complex either. But it was good. Good enough for god-loving-1998 at least. Not to mention the mods, yes the mods... It attracted them like flies - something only a few games have been able to do since.
