I do have a .22. I have several and I enjoy shooting all of them. Shooting nothing but the same thing however isn't too fun. Also if you hunted a bear with a .380 you'd really piss that bear the fuck off. You would not however come anywhere near killing it. Might as well be throwing rocks.Megatron wrote:Why don't you just use a .22 anyway gosh, it's not like you're hunting bear or sharks.
Got a brand new Sig .45
my vocabulary skills is above you.
Why the fuck would you want to kill a bear in the first place? I don't understand how people can take pleasure in killing another being.
I guess it's because god put bears on the earth so man could hunt it, or some bullshit reason like that.

According to world.guns.ru, 9x18mm is heavier, faster, and has more energy than 9x17. Marginally, of course, but in every category. The catch? .380 bullet they compared was JHP, 9x18mm was FMJ (but there are 9x18mm JHP out there, or you could make one yourself, it doesn't really matter all that much.Aonaran wrote: How would you compare the rounds? And no, I haven't fired .380 or Mak, but I did get to hold a Mak loaded with Hydrashock ammo, and I've seen plenty of people recommending Mak over PPK. Maks are really cheap if you can find them, too.
P.S:
Stay away from Kel-Tec handguns, they all (P11 including) have those really short grips that are uncomfortable to hold.

Personally I don't. I'm not much of a hunter. The only way i'll hunt is if i'm hunting something that could fuck me up. Like i'd hunt wild boar with a .44 magnum but as far as hunting with guns thats about as far as i'd go. Bear and lions and all that crazy shit doesn't sound appealing to me either. I would hunt deer and am thinking of doing so but the only way i'd do it is with a Bow. The reason for this is that way there would be a challenge and I'd have to track it after wounding it. Also I wouldn't just use it for a trohpy, i'd use all it's meat as food (as venison is amazingly good). Just the same as buying hamburger in a store only without the comfort of not knowing how it died, I personally think there is more honor in this.Lynxer wrote:Why the fuck would you want to kill a bear in the first place? Edit: But again, I'm not a hunter, I enjoy target practice more than anything and it will always be my favorite shooting sport.

Yeah i've heard similar here and there, Kel-Tec never really impressed me all that much. Guess it's time for more research. I'll have to ask around and see if anyone I know owns a Makarov. I'll definitely need to shoot one before I make my decision. Just last weekend shot PPK though and loved the hell out of it, it wasn't anywhere near as sharp as I'd heard it was going to be and it was surprisingly accurate for such a small gun.ApTyp wrote:P.S:

A lot of people like Kel-Tec pistols because they're so small. If you want a carry gun but don't have any place to put it, like in the summer for example, them little pocket autos of their are perfect.
I second the Makarov choice. Walther's are overrated in my opinion, they might be fine guns and all, but shit, you'd think they were made from gold, hand crafted by Jesus Christ in a Santa suit for the price of them. Compare that to the Makarov, which you can get for less than $150, if you do your homework on them and shop around.

Sigs are good and dependable weapons in my opinion. Good choice on the calibur Ap Typ, unless you're going for concealability, never go with gun less then a .357 Magnum or a .40 S&W. My department will require me to buy a P226....though I'll probably end up carrying my Taurus or a Colt Anaconda.
Anaran - Derringers are neat, cheap, and very concealable. Sure, they only give you two shots, but most gunfights are over in the first .5 some odd seconds. However, if you're dead set on a Walther I'd rather suggest a P22 rather then a PPK. Ofcourse.....it's a .22 LR and abit bigger so just go with what you'd prefer.
Why would someone hunt....well out here deer populations need to be hunted. If Hunters did not hunt them, they'd overpopulate and devastate the surrounding area as well as themselves. That's one example.
There's plenty of reasons to buy a gun. Shooting is a fun activity first and foremost. Also issues of self defense and other things but theres already so many arguments about that on here, more is not needed.

I would never use a .22 for self defense unless that's all I had. Rimfire pistols like that just aren't reliable enough, nor do they deliver enough power. You can get centerfire autopistols in the same size with more umph behind them, or even a .357/.38. Plus those P22's are finicky about ammo and such.
Around here at the gunshows I still see Makarovs for $150 and we're not a super gun friendly state. I'll have to go have a look around at the next one in October.

Could be worse, this one Handgun from south africa (Vektor CP-1) had some sort of safety problem and would fire on its own if bumped or dropped.
Airsoft - Interestingly enough, the .22 is the gun choice of the hitman because it fits into generally small guns, and the lack of penetration means that a head shot will simply go through the entrance and not exit the skull...to be fair I think that's a load of rubbish in a self defense situation.

It's rather difficult to get a head shot in a combat situation like that when you and your opponent are so close. The object of a handgun is to put holes into your opponent, slow him down, make him bleed a lot. The reason assassins use a .22 is because they can usually get up real close to their target so a miss would be silly.
A .22 shouldn't be used as more than a back up to your main side arm, and even then I'd still rather take a centerfire pistol over rimfire.

Please tell me why I would want to own a gun legally anyways?
Filling out 600 sheets of life condemning paper is the last thing I want to do.
I really want is the government/police to know everything about me at the call of a syntax code. I'm off the radar now, last thing I need is gun ownership to come up when some dirty mexican gets shot a block from my house.
