Ever play Solar Winds? That's the last 2D space RPG I played. SR2 is similar but combat is turn based and there's more ships and things to do. It's easy to jump into, and the interface is nice and clean. There is a ton of stuff to learn if you want to kick ass. It isn't just running around killing stuff. You need to keep track of:

Cash. You need lots of it.

Fuel. Run out and you're screwed. And it's costly.

Repairs. Invest in good droids and pump up the right skills. Fixing stuff gets more expensive with the better things you get. If you're a pirate then Pirate Stations give a discount.

Don't try to do too much early on.

Those are the big three. Further along you need to watch the Dominators. They're this super robot army that invades systems and kills everything. Early on avoid them unless you join a military strike. It appears the better you're doing the more systems they attack. I'm at the point where any mission brings me at least 80,000 credits and always chose the "got anything harder?" option. Using it to command a military strike makes life so much easier.

You can hire other ships to join you for a year (based on Leadership ability. Level 1= 1 ship) but everybody will say fuck off until you're a much higher rank. And even then it costs way too much. I just reached a point in the game where I can make a million credits an hour then do whatever I want. It'll take you a while to get there. Just save often.

Thor, It's like an explore game type of thing. There not FPS stuff, I dont think, but there is a lot of little minigame type of shit.
So, it's a bit like GTA:SA except without the shootings? D:

Sounds a bit like an MMORPG, only without the multiplayer part. Not my thing, I guess, but thanks.

I was thinking how sweet it would be with a massive coop feature like Diablo or something. A game like this is dying for a Battle.Net.

I haven't gotten the time to play the first Space Rangers yet. I know it has more 2D black hole cave-shooter action and no RTS, but for some reason it hasn't got the same positive reaction as SR2. Has anyone tried it? Mine's not copy-protected, so it'd make a perfect game for a laptop. B)

I'll try it after I beat 2, which will probably happen in the next couple days. I defeated Keller in the blackhole arena (easy as fuck if you only fly backwards), but can't figure out how to kill Terron. I think I have to wait for the anti-dominator Terronoid whatever research to complete before I take on that big planet looking dealy. Tried killing it and had to run off after plugging away for 30 minutes. The Blazeroid research finished a while ago but haven't found the place I need to go yet.

Oh yeah, I reached 1st place in Ranger rank. They should be begging to work for me, but it still costs hundreds of thousands of credits to hire somebody that doesn't suck.
