Clarise is a general and I think you have to beat the Reavers before you even have a chance at getting her regardless of rank, so you're not going to get her until very late in the game. Your main character can get Leader while still fighting raiders, though. Just save your first perk until 4th level and you're good to go. I'd rather not wait. If Leader works for your computer, your whole squad will gain an agility point and I think 5 AC when close to you. It will be highlighted in blue as well.

All I usually have to sacrifice for charisma is endurance, anyway. Since I usually play a sniper, it's really not much of a hindrance.

Which leads me back to my original question: how big/wide is the "shpere of influence"? 8)

It's roughly a 5 tile radius around the character w/the perk. The benefits do stay w/a character for a few seconds after he/she moves out of the "Sphere of Influence", though.

BTW, the AC bonus is 10, not 5. W/the bonus of 1 AC from the 1 pt. of AG - barring that you have the Kamikaze Trait - it really does make a difference in whether or not you get hit, especially early on.

I like this perk very much. For a low-level perk it gives you quite a bit of bang for the slot, and it's also quite appropriate for a Squad Leader to take a perk called "Leader", methinks. (I played a game w/Sharon once and I had her take the perk.)

Completely off the wall: If FoT2 ever comes out, I hope they have the number of slots in your squad dependent on CH. If you want to play a lone wolf, the game should support that/force you into it, IMHO. (There would have to be scripting allowances for temporary squad members, like the Reavers in Newton, though.)
