MCA on the Fallout editors
I remember playing that Rambo game a few times at a mates place. We never even knew about those gloves, so it wasn't much of a game.

Sorry, can't say that I have. Is it a good movie or one that is so bad it's good?Saint_Proverbius wrote:Have you ever seen Galaxy Quest? The Electric Floor Door Maze can be summed up by the Choppers scene in that movie.
Yes, I agree. They could have put the barracks there w/a security gate or something that you could do the following with:Saint-Proverbius wrote:Honestly, who the hell would put one of those there to get to and from barracks? Shouldn't the barracks be enough of a security measure?
- Load up your weapons and blast your way through it. You kill the guards then blast either the gate or its power source to get through the actual gate.
- Use a coversation w/Speech triggers that allow you to BS your way through.
- Use Repair or Science to shut something down/open the gate.
- Steal a badge or form from somewhere/someone that allows you to pass that way.
While the FO universe isn't all about realism, it's at its best when both multiple solutions are possible as well as when barriers/obstacles/challenges aren't glaringly mazes. It's all about subtlety.
If jumping were included it would be best if jumping were stat related. It could be used as a means to give very physical characters a leg up since they would obviously be able to jump farther. You could have your base jumping distance modified by the number of hexes/meters that your character could run for before the jump-off point. A click on a button and you are asked what hex/area to jump from, then to. Your character then takes the best route to make that jump and the AI calculates if he/she makes the jump. I do think that instant-death should be avoided in situations like this. For instance if your character falls down a chasm he/she takes a moderate amount of damage and then has to wander around a cave complex - which not necessarily a maze! - in order to get to the other side of the chasm. There might be some critters down there to make life a bit more difficult for you, of course.Saint_Proverbius wrote:Jumping would be acceptable if they didn't do that.
Pyro: Yes, I've tried taking Rubber Boots with me and it doesn't work. Allowing that would have been a slightly redeeming quality to that maze.

Essentially, it's the Spaceballs of Star Trek. A Trek-esque show is picked up by aliens, who reconstruct the ship, then fly to earth and grab the cast to fly it, and they have zany adventures and blow up an warlike alien species.OnTheBounce wrote:Sorry, can't say that I have. The scene Saint is talking about is when the captain has to get to the engines for some reason. In the show, there were choppy things in the walkway, and I believe there were some flamthrowers involved as well. The aliens, not realizing that the choppers were there for cinematic quality, put them in anyway. Hilarity ensues.
Black Mage: She better have an antidote for FACE STABBIN'! 'Cause, ooh, her face is so stabbed when we get back!
Why not? They've done just about everything else.Saint_Proverbius wrote: I agree. Jumping would be acceptable if they didn't do that. However, knowing BIS..
"Let's put in jumping. Imagine what you could do with that?"
"Jump puzzles!"
"YEAH!"
That would be horrible.
It's the limbo, mon. How low can you go?

Again the point goes right over your head.Constipated BladeRunner wrote:IWD is not FO.

Anyway, does the mere fact that MCA is considering doing this not proof of his undying love for FO and the FO universe?
Not only was Ass-Wind Dale poor as an RPG, it's sequel is even worse in more ways. Given that MCA was the lead designer, and he'd likely be the lead designer of a Fallout 3, what connection would you get from that?
Don't hurt yourself.

JE Sawyer is the person who suggested BIS release the Fallout editors
Thanks for paying attention.

That sounds like the ending to gunman chronicles. Except the real ending you just shoot these chicken things and stuff.Spazmo wrote:Then, the big boss battle. You kill him/her/it. But does it die? No, a great big gamma ray comes in from space and makes it a lot bigger! Then you have to get into your giant robot and use your stupid giant sword to kill it. Then go shoot yourself.
They have to get to this item, and instead of going past a normal walkway with a key-card door they have these huge buzz-saws and flamethrowers.OnTheBounce wrote:Saint_Proverbius wrote:

I thought it was an ok movie. Some good parts...that was probably the funniest.

It was a pretty good game. You had a knife for silent kills and a sub-machine gun. You had to go round this bunker in the first half, find some rubber gloves and open this electrified door. You then had to rescue that colonel, then the next part of the game started (you were in a tank or something...never got that far though)I remember playing that Rambo game a few times at a mates place. We never even knew about those gloves, so it wasn't much of a game.
It would make a pretty good fot map.

Fun Fact: Reviews are often bought these days.Constipated BladeRunner wrote:Poor?
I have yet to read a review that placed it under 85%!
Game publishers give sites freebies, such as free games, clothing, etc. in exchange for certain things being pointed out in reviews - sometimes even favorable reviews.
You'll also notice that IWD2 is getting around 85% everywhere. Fallout Tactics did the same thing, and we all know that game had gobs of flaws as well.

I've seen a couple reviews that gave it 7.0/10, even 6. I myself have played and I am disappointed. It's something of an uninspired game. It's just a series of areas that are filled with half a dozen identical groups of monsters. There may be one who has a name and a couple extra hit points, but it's mostly quite repetitive. And, of course, you just use the same old tactics every time: just have your fighters hit them and have your casters fling offensive spells until everything dies. I may muster the will to finish it. I've heard it gets better later on in the game. But I would be surprised.

Yeah, DAC's wasteland gave it 4...I think.
Hehe, then it is worth 4, end of discussion.Pyro wrote:Yeah, DAC's wasteland gave it 4...I think.
Yeah, sadly reviews don't often give a real picture of the game. Some reviews are usually based on hype, exaggerating the new features. You really must find a game mag or online mag that's reliable and don't hype games. The 'big ones' aren't usually that.
Use of Jumping Puzzles
Jumping puzzles were in Dark Alliance.
DA was a BIS sanctioned Baldur's Gate console milk cow.
Once I associated the rest of the game play with Chaos Engine, I was able to play it with the nephew.
We both hated the jumping puzzles, if the BIS lurkers really care.
For BITTER and for worse I anticipate console features in all BIS products for now and forever.
Can always depend on the herd instincts of smart money.
