I kill the slavers the last before I leave the Den. I just lock the two doors there to keep them in two groups inside and the four outside.
As far as I know, only one of them has a Psycho and no Buffouts. It's not my damage rolls as after 7 times of playing the game, they do it everytime and with every level of difficulty. They just get it from somewhere. It's pretty bad, since after the first kill, the .44 does about 2 damage... 10mm nothing.... A bad bug. It makes me spend more stimpacks than I'd like to...
Well, doesn't really matter. I finished them already.

The .44 Magnum didn't do jack shit in the unpatched version. That's one of the things that the patch fixes, according to the readme.Doyle wrote:Magnum underpowered? It's already one of the best weapons for probably the first third of the game. Remember, this is Fallout, not a "realistic" first person shooter. Guns aren't supposed to do realistic damage.

I dunno, I take the slavers out when I return from Vault Vity with the car part, so I have Cassidy with me for extra firepower and passed a few more levels. Never had any toruble with them that way though I still steal everything they hav eon them 'for I kill'm so they don't waste any drugs/ammo I could use. The whole fight takes 1 or 2 minutes and is quite entertaining. I usually don't close/lock any door and walk right up to metzger and shoot him poit-blank with an aimed shot to the eyes with the Combat Shotgun (why waste ammo with a burst?)

Spyder is right. The animation is funny.
I like to end one towns quests before moving to another. Exceptions are those quests that need several different towns..
Locking the doors and maybe putting a dyno on Metzgers pocket before combat is great help. Plus, I usually get a level right after killing Metzger.

Well, first off, Metzger isn't a quest item, though freeing the slaves is free XP. Second, you'll need to return to the Den for the Car (unless you think it's fun to play with the unpatched game to get it on your first pas... ). Third, the only thing you'll fight between here and back, apart from possible random encounters, are some radioactive rats and some wolves, so it's not as if you NEED to level up before doing that... And in fact it makes much more sense to do it when you're back and it's easy - unless of course you like the challenge which is quite understandable.

Ummm.. Would you double check that Metzger, Red? Killing him gives over 1k exp. But I'm not sure if it days if it's for freeing the slaves (although you might have not even freed them even if you would kill Metzger so it wouldn't make sense).
Also the encounters between VC and Den are usually Robbers or Highwaymen. Usually about 5 of them, so I do need that level to fight them (or alternatively I could use like 50 stims.. but that's kinda hard to get that early).
And I do enjoy the car. I've played with the unpatched to the end, but I lost my nerves with the car...sometimes just the trunk, sometimes the engine...you know what I mean.
