If you really can't understand why they hadn't transformed into ghouls, then what about this kind of an explination: Designers screwed up. They aren't ghouls that's for sure, but I don't know WHY they aren't like that.

In Necropolis the ghouls need water purification chip in order to stay alive - but HAHA! Weren't they immune to radiation and poisons? So they wouldn't need a purification chip after all? But the quest goes like that and there's nothing to complain about it, capishi.

Why would they be immune to poison?

Anyway, the chip itself obviously didn't purify the water, which means it just controlled the processes that purified the water. Which could easily be construed to mean that the vault pumps simply wouldn't work without the chip.

As I understand the chip is just an integral part of the system that purfies the water from underground rivers.
Without the chip, the system will not work.

why would they want a water purification chip? surely any thing entering their bodies would die on contact, like the guy in gecko says what use would he have for anti rad drugs and why would they need clean water?

..and btw paynetothemax you're not funny

I am sure everyone here knows about the glowing fungus, but even considering that, it just seemed as if Glowing Ones, not ghouls live there.

Even after fixing the farm, glowing one sprites remain down in the shelter.

Yes...they were too lazy to make sprites, but they could have removed those, and replaced them with other leather armor people.

Why would they live their entire life underground smeared in mushrooms?

Not only that, but if they really meant for all of them just to be smeared people, who hobble for some reason, could they have at least changed the text, not the sprite. "The GHOUL moves at the wrong time, and loses an eye."

As for the water chip, although it is unclear, without the chip they cannot access water. It does not just purify it.

This is CLEAR when you steal the chip, the glowing ones say. "The flow ends, so does your life." The flow as in the water stops.

Sorry Duc and Skynet, but the water purification chip thingy in Gecko has been chewed through several times here in DAC and V13.net. And we've come to the conclusion that the developers just didn't remember pay any regard to the fact that ghouls were immune to radiation. Some people offered the solution that the water purification system also cleared the water out of bacteria, but boiling the water would do just the same.

And there are no ghouls in Ghost Farm, we've been through with this already.

if it moos, eats grass and tastes like beef then i am gonna call it a cow.
if it moves, dies & fights like a ghoul then common sense dictates thats what it is, i know they arent ghouls but i know what i see.

I emailed Chris Avellone about the Slags, and he passed on my question to the guy who designed the Ghost Farm. Here's the response:
Jason Suinn wrote:They are slags covered in glowing moss. They use it to disguise themselves as 'ghosts' when they go to the surface at night. Thus the reputation of the ghost farm. I forget at exactly what time of night this happens but if you return to the ghost town at night, you'll see them out and about the fields. This is one of the alternate ways to get into the slag caves. Just stand around and eventually a patrol (no glowers) should wander by and initiate conversation. Let them capture you and you're taken to a cell below ground.
So there.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

ok kashluk if you read the messages you would realise that i already admitted my stupididty at thinking the glowing slags were really ghouls. the leader of the slags spells it out but i never really paid attention to anything that guy said, and its not my fault that the people at BIS were too stupid/lazy to make the difference clearer in the game (besides the leader telling you)

...but if it makes you feel like a big man then please continue to gloat

Skynet you were not a fool to think there were ghouls there, since as I stated before, in the game the text says they are Ghouls when you attack the ones underground. So it is logical to assume what you did.

About the waterchip, as you said it has been debated, but perhaps you never payed attention to the quote from the game that I mentioned.

"The flow ends so does your life." If the flow of water stops without the chip, then clearly it controls the access to water.

Another point. In Fallout 2, when you take the chip from the fake vault encounter, it says the vault will run out of water in a short amount of time, or something. Run out of water, not have contaminated water.

It seems clear that it controls the water flow. Surely a Jedi Master would know this....

Then again, Jedi don't wear leather pants or make music either.
