The thing about all this is... they're asking the people on the iply forums for advice about the game. These people should not be giving their input... they have some tremendously crappy ideas. Such as :
"I want varied death animations so that my char can look cool while wielding the katana!"
It's hopefully been decided that this is indeed NOT Fallout : Japan, so i think that's a hella bad idea... not to mention all the people who want crouching / crawling ala FO:T. "You need it so it has all the tactics that the other Fallouts had!" Right... these people definately know what they're talking about.
At least we'll have quite a list of people to blame if the game isn't up to par.
Puuk confirms FO3... sort of :)

I can't honestly believe they're really soliciting opinions from their boards. They've been getting shit (and deserving it) for five years about the stupid stuff suggested by IPLYers that went into FO2. They can't be so dim as to do it again. I figure (okay, hope) that they're just letting IPLYers think they're suggesting things and making a difference.
But really, they're pretty much obligated not to get any opinions at all. Using something a fan suggested in your game can lead to nasty legal complications if the fan wants props in the credit or, even worse, cold hard cash (by the way, kids, never accept a check from Interplay). That's why some companies like Blizzard have a unilateral policy of ignoring all unsolicited suggestions.

BTW I wouldn't mind a greater variety of death animations, char movements and stuff (maybe not crouching since it would get us dangerously in the direction of RTS/action); katana is definitely ruled out as long as it's not F:Jap. IMHO any updates are welcome if they do NOT violate the Fallout canon.
(well yeah, now we can argue bout what F canon is, right? )

I remember that, sounded silly at the time, now it sounds silly how i didn`t saw that coming :/Killzig wrote:Woah, I'd forgotten about that but you're right -- you did. Bear in mind though, that BIS were only the producers of the series and did not participate in game development. Baldur's Gate was a pretty decent game gameplaywise, but elvish names and other phantasy stuff doesn't exactly turn me on so I had to struggle to finish the game.Zetura Dracos wrote:I have to agree with s4ur0n27 that a Baldur's Gate 3 might be good thing. If not for the gameplay and the storyline but for that Baldur's Gate is one of Black Isle and even Interplay's as a whole better and most popular franchises. Also because Baldur's Gate was the first RPG I ever played and Im quite partial to the series. I have to ask though if its anything more than a rumor as Throne of Bhaal closed of the story-line more or less without dispute. The whole concept of Fallout 3 is great though and even if it is crap I will still buy it.
I hope the IPLY boards would have some sort of fantasy/anime filter when it comes to game suggestions for a non-fantasy game. Listening to fans of the series can be incredibly stupid since you could get bad influence and ideas(as seen in Fallout 2), but there's nothing wrong with posting well-thought ideas and constructive criticism for the game. I, myself, have strong doubts that everyone working on Van Buren know what they're doing since only a few have worked on the original Fallout. I wasn't really impressed with the gasbot, either. The most likely thing that could happen is that they forget the 1950's retrofuturistic aspect of the game, like in FOT and FOBOS. I don't want Fallout 3 to become another spin-off.

Well, they weren't able to filter the good from the bad back in 1997-1998 with what went in to Fallout 2, and the suggestions I've seen on the IPLY forum tend to mirror and magnify the general stupidity that got dumped in to Fallout 2. Feargus even said that they should have listenned less to every thing spewed forth on the forum and stuck more with what was in the first game rather than tacking on KEWL IDIA #2857.Spazmo wrote:I can't honestly believe they're really soliciting opinions from their boards. It's rather amazing they are asking those people what they think once again.
What's really scary is JE Sawyer said they could make a great Fallout 3 even if they ignored the hardcore Fallout fan base.. Because that worked out so well for Cavedog when it came time to make TA:Kingdoms.
I actually got a few flames for saying it. That's the funny part.Briosafreak wrote:I remember that, sounded silly at the time, now it sounds silly how i didn`t saw that coming
