"The amusing thing is that I find absolutely no connection to Imagine Entertainment and Wulfram."

it was under another name , shock force it was. you can probably still find the demo an patch for shock force on the download.com servers. As for engine tech, it has nothing to do with fallout. if you count fallout 1''s engine then its close to the same age as shock force(wulfram), but like any title you can change engines. Daikatana for example has change engines 3 times before release even though it sucked ass. Also any company will sell anything for a price.

Also fallout's fame has been deminished with the release on FO:BOS, so if they keep this up fallout will be as low as any other game im sorry to say.

(Whats with the hostility?)

You do realise you're talking about hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS of dollars, right? Hell, even if you were lucky enough to get every registered user on this board to chip in $1,000 each, you're still short of the two million mark and I don't see the Fallout license going for much less.

Technically the game hasn't been released yet, only gone gold. On another technicality, I wouldn't really say that Fallouts fame has diminished as a franchise among its fans, as much as our faith in Interplay to produce products worthy of the Fallout name. Fallout the rpg is still famous. Fallout: BOS is looking to be a romp into mediocre action-ville however, which might gain infamy for Fallout: BOS or Fallout on Consoles, but I don't see the core fans (Most all of them PC users) really shying away from Fallout or Fallouts name, just interplay.
Harriers for the cup.

Funny, no historical mention of that having connection tp Imagine Entertainment, either. In addition, Shock Force was a different incarnation than Wulfram.

What I do find about Shock Force is connection to iMagic Online, aka IAmGame.com, and the iEntertainment network, the developer listed as Bolt Action Software. Still no connection to Imagine Entertainment at all. Wulfram and Shock Force are two separate games in the sense that they were on different carriers in that time, plus they had a number of differences. Both still made by the same developer, or iMagic Online possibly took over the reigns for a little while before it got too hot for them to handle (according to some history sites, and they spoke of the trashed state of the game with abusive users).

The original developer is continuing development. Slurpy, who, according to several history sites, originally owned and made Wulfram (which appears, Shock Force was a different version of, but for use on a different network and was possibly owned by the carrier only temporarily, that is a slightly obscure area in which I may e-mail Slurpy himself to get their account of it). Wulfram was on TEN, Shock Force was on iMagic Online's network. Shock Force was then later remade into Wulfram II by the same owner/creator. Oh, hey, still no mention of Imagine Entertainment...

That means he didn't buy the rights from the original holders, he STILL HAD the rights, especially after Shock Force was poorly moderated and eventually became a smoking hole on the carrier's service. Since Bolt Action appears to be in ashes and iMagic Online couldn't handle moderating the game, it appears they sold back the rights to the game to Slurpy for very little. But that's a possible guess, as most indications point to Slurpy (and Bolt Action Software) holding the rights to the game for as long as it has been around.

In essence, it was the same game, just changed where it was carried. It's now the same developer, same owner.

Then there's this bit, which has a slightly different account, one that further destroys your bullshit to pieces.

This is without talking to Slurpy at all, and I would think that with the amount of history sites and old news bits that the history is generally so, else it would have been corrected by someone when it was reported.
As for engine tech, it has nothing to do with fallout. (snip more idiocy about engine tech)
Wow, you certainly failed to read something important. I wasn't commenting about any engine capability or whatever, only that it was based upon the same architecture and code derivative. Which still prefers a Voodoo 1 and Voodoo 2 architecture. That says...very pre-1999.

Let's continue this, shall we? Here we have your original statement:
Originally from imagine entertainment about 4 yrs ago, now under new management an with a good fan base from which it started.
"Originally from Imagine Entertainment..."
False as can be. First, IE is a Universal Studios company. Wulfram, Shock Force, and Wulfram II were developed by Bolt Action Software.

False. How about almost 6 years or more ago?

"...now under new management..."
Funny. Slurpy (Bernt Habermeier) is one of two people to found Bolt Action Software in 1996. Slurpy is still developing and managing it at the time of this writing, easily verified by looking at the Wulfram II website. How does that qualify as "new management", moron?

Don't you just feel the dumbshit by now? :)
Daikatana for example has change engines 3 times before release even though it sucked ass.
What are you smoking, kid? Daikatana was and pretty much still is using the Quake II engine, although quite modified (hard to see where all the time went, though, since other mods have done much better). It's likely changed versions of said Quake 2 engine modification, but it's still the Quake II engine and has been since the attention whore Romero started. That's one of the main complaints about it, is that it took that long and is quite dated already. It would have been one thing if it followed a good dev cycle and came out in a timely manner, but instead it came out too late and looked too old for the core FPS crowd and bugged the shit out of everyone. Pun not intended.

To solve your confusion, yes ION Storm did license the Unreal engine (but for Daikatana 2, not Daikatana) and were going to have Human Head develop. Daikatana 2 got the axe very early on, thank goodness.

This was evaluated by Human Head, Epic let them develop off the Unreal engine, and this brought about Rune.

Kid...stop using examples that are so laughably full of shit. It's not helping your position at all, much less alleviate your obvious cluelessness of the game industry.
Also any company will sell anything for a price.
Sure, but if you're suggesting that you sell yourself into manwhore slavery to Herve Caen, that's business between you and him. All the more power to you, spanky.
Also fallout's fame has been deminished with the release on FO:BOS, so if they keep this up fallout will be as low as any other game im sorry to say.
PoS hasn't been released yet, Witless Wonder. The real effects of PoS' release hasn't been felt yet, but will be soon. Some information for you. Even if a game series has dies down, even that of Might and Magic (especially after 9), the franchise still goes for quite a bit since it often includes republishing rights. It is for that purpose alone that IPLY has never been able to get the rights for Wasteland and one of the reasons Fallout was made how it was.

Damn these stupid kids and their naiveté over copyright...
(Whats with the hostility?)
What's with your idiocy? Stop trying to bullshit us, kid. First you post flamebait, then continuously post more idiocy each time your poor keyboard is savaged. You can't even get the simplest of easily verified (to be false) "facts" straight and it's because of morons like yourself people get agitated. Tell you what, if you leave now, we'll try to forget you posted any of the stupid shit that you have already and also try to forget that we wish your mother had a health insurance plan that covered retroactive birth control.

Not true. Daikatana started on the Quake engine. When Romero left id software Carmack allowed him to license the technology that he helped create. After seeing a demo of Quake 2 in '98 he was amazed by the color lighting and made the switch. This was a pretty big deal and I'd figure someone as anal as you would know that :P

Paladin359 wrote:Hey im not doing your homework for you, but one example is wulfram.
Yeah, I was kind of expecting an answer based on a gaming license that people have heard of! Like Rosh said, Wulfram was little more than footnote in gaming history, if that, and there's certainly not much point in even bringing the game up since BattleZone and BattleZone 2 have spanked it silly in nearly every aspect. Hell, we're talking about a 256 color game with a locked resolution of 640x480 that uses GLIDE for rendering, here. And this is four years later.

So, basically, you've done nothing but mention a very, very, very small name title that could be purchased for table scraps, and demonstrated that it's really not much of a good idea to do because it's done nothing but stagnate. So, not only is your example nothing on par with backing up your claim that communities can buy up well known licenses, like Fallout, it doesn't even show there's much of a gain involved to do so.

And just for kicks about Wulfram's community, ENJOY THIS LINK. Nothing like a game that you can be banned from by calling someone a puss or saying OMFG.
There are other examples, find them.
You're the boyo making the claims about communities buying up licenses here, it's up to you to back them up.

I'll admit I didn't follow Dick-A-Tonna that minutely because I had known Romero before then. Romero is good as a coffee bitch. On his own and as a project lead, he's pretty much a waste of money and effort. He isn't worth paying attention to, in other words. If it's true that it started on the Quake engine and went to Quake II, then I stand corrected. That certainly sounds a hell of a lot more plausible than the three engines claimed, along with everything else Paladin!411 shat out.

Yup, he started with Quake/Quakeworld/GLQuake and then moved to Quake 2. Basically, the same thing Hexen 2 started with is what he started with, then moved to the Quake 2 engine.

Rosh, Im corrected by your immense wisdom. But if the fallout community is not gonna take action then what do we do? Im tired of those guys stabbing holes in the fallout universe an making shame to its name. Theres gotta be something we can do.

As for the daikatana i was wrong that there were 3 engines, i had read an article that they were gonna switch to the unreal engine after the quake engine.

We're doing it. As I see it we have two options: Make our feelings known and then back that up with what we buy. We made it clear we didn't like the direction FOBOS was going, we tried to tell them why, and they ignored us. Now, we simply don't buy it. Beyond that, there's not a lot else we can do.

We have already been taking action, but it is going to take until the main media finds out for itself until anything is felt. Hell, there was the highest number of presales ever from the IPLY store for Fallout Tactics, but due to warnings and the general crappiness of the game, sales dropped QUICK. F:POS isn't much different, but I know a lot of the console crowd. There's many more shooter games that have been done much better, especially if Run Like Hell is anything to judge by.

No, the license was obtained to do a SEQUEL, as I pointed out already (and which can easily be verified). To change Daikatana from Quake 2 to Unreal would have been a shitload of work and would have been a foolish move, even for Romero. Therefore, it would make more sense to have the sequel made from scratch on the Unreal engine.

I had read that they were thinking of swtiching to the unreal engine in a magazine article which was making fun of all the delays an over exaggerations. An they even commented on the same fact you did on it being more troubled to swtich engines then its worth.

These things aren't appropriate. First, calling other folks puss or pussy isn't allowed. Nor is saying "oh my fucking god", which is exactly what that means.

This was originally an e-mail and not a ban, but the address on the account bounced my e-mail back and the point needs to be made.

RULES: 'this map is gay' or 'you OH SHIT I HEAR THE ICE CREAM TRUCK!!!!!111!1111oneone' are both not acceptable

Because you dont want your old handle, doesnt give you a excuse to make a new one. Be a donor and change your name.

    Extra handles = Ban
But if you make a new handle a second time, the ban days goes up to SEVEN days.. And the third time, it's PERMABAN. So, you can't change your name or else the penalties are severe.

But honestly, this is the funniest one:
  • Dale122
until an e-mail ban by Honorguard on 2003-10-31 14:10:56
3 handles is against the rules. Until you explain the existance of these 3 handles, this ban will not come off.

The squad "MILF" on one of the handles has also been disbanded... that's hardly an appropriate squad name.
So, you can't have an acronym like MILF as a squad tag? Sheesh. And yeah, I've seen American Pie, but still.. Disbanding a clan because of something silly like that is bullshit.

We will not tolerate people disrepecting volunteer activists in this game. Especially when he was trying to get you to play the game instead of acting the way you were acting.
Either way he didn't deserve your response. Have a day off to think it over.
Oh no! He was being rude to somebody!
I hope he didn't hurt the other guy's feelings too badly... :(

So from what I remember from another website, Derek Smart is this dude who comes up with elaborate game plans, but always fails at making them and starts going Interplay on the fans who make constructive criticism about them, right? Apparently he's infamous for doing that. He'll come up with essays even longer than Rosh's as rebuttals for other posts, except the only difference is that the other posts actually have a point to them.
