Why parents are *NOT* allowed to buy a f*cking computer!

This reminds me of when I was around 15, and my brother bought me a brand new computer for Christmas. It was the biggest piece of shit that has ever been assembled. It was made by a company called 'Tiger' (not Tiger Electronics, but I bet they would have done a better job); a powerhouse that had a 266 Mhz processor, 16MB RAM, and 1.1 GB hard-drive. It had one of the worst graphics cards that have ever existed, the S3 Virge. A supposed "2D/3D combo card" that crashed routinely playing any 3D game, and it barely was able to run 2D games (heaven forbid it was in 16 bit color). I had blue screens of death around 2-3 times per day, and it got so bad that it even affected my monitor (blue lines horizontally across the screen). The thing barely held up for a year before collapsing entirely under its own bloated specs. Haha, my experience with it was so bad, I never bought a computer again until 7 years later.

Damn, that sucks. This is another reason why I build all of my own computers (including the one I'm typing on now).

Around 7-8 years ago, during 1995 I think. It had to be around '95 or '96 because I remember the OS was Windows '95. When it started failing three times a day, I actually took it apart and was preparing to purchase brand new parts to build a "supercomputer" (laughable considering the time period, but I was a stupid teen then "OMG 32MB RaM!! 2GB HaRd DriVE!! 8MB DuAl ViDeO CaRds!"). Before I bought new parts though, I'd figure I'd attempt to put it back together to see if I was capable of doing so. So I had one of those PC Gamer magazines with those "Do-It-Yourself" type articles. I later realized that my Tiger computer was tougher to put back together than a fucking Russian sattelite and gave up.

I can control teh network!
Access, open ports, etc. So if they use too much bandwidth with uploading (they don't disable file sharing on kazaa), I can just close their ports muahaha.

Heh. That's how I learned to take apart my old Compaq back in '97 when I knew virtually nothing about computers. The only difference was that I had absolutely no booklet, or magazine, or anything to point me in the right direction. Only a screwdriver, and enough brains to use it. Surprisingly, I managed to put it back together, and it still worked! Yeah, it was a true DIY job.

One funny thing about it that I learned a few years back was that I could have very easily blown the thing up (literally). It used the old AT style power connectors, and if you put them in the wrong way (which is easy to do), the motherboard would fry, and the power supply would blow up (and make a loud BANG! with a thick black cloud of smoke coming from it). I've seen it happen (my dumbass USCG friend did it once), but have never done it myself. It was funny in retrospect, as I was one easy mistake from disaster with that PC.
