omikron has those shitty half assed 3d square people though. not that i could stand playing it for more than an hour but thats another issue.
i liked harbinger. its alright if you dont want deep, deep story and you wanna look for items and figure out what the hell is going on.
it kinda plays like a 50s sci-fi novel.

I always play an Elven ranger as they always spot secret tunnels and doors. I used to play as a barbarian or night however I found that there were levels where I was totally stuck because I could not see these secret passages.
with regards to finishing the game, I remember reading somewhere once that this has never actually beeen done.
EDIT: ha ha "night", I mean knight [gotta stop posting when i'm blind drunk].

you do know about s, right?
S = search
Don't worry, it took me a week before a friend of mine told me that I wasn't stuck and just had to (S)earch around for the secret passages.
I like my lawful valkryie, because as soon as I found a fountain I dipped my long sword and got an Excalibur. Auto-searching, better searching, level-drain resist, and a really badass weapon for so early in the game. I think you have to be a certain level before you can get your sword to change, though.

Mailbox Man!
Yar.

#dip longswords into fountains... I wouldn't suggest dipping it if it's your primary weapon though as it will most probably just get very rusty.
In my last game (164777 points, new highscore woo) I got the Cleaver by sacrificing a lot to my god Crom. #offer fresh bodies on your altar, #pray:ing on altars is a lot more useful too than normal prayers (you get rid of curses and stuff). Just don't overdo it... bleh, just experiment and get killed in very stupid ways. Or read spoilers like these like I do Lame? Perhaps, but Nethack is such a huge fucking game and I don't have the time to learn all that shit by trial&error. Actually instead of spoiling I think they've made the game funner for me as I don't always die on like level 5 anymore. It's not like the game becomes super-easy if you read them from time to time, heh
