Wohaa, some great moments in AO tonight.

We gathered up a bunch of people from our guild, Omni-Tek Forever, to start a raid against the dirty Clans. We set a "camp" in the desert, outside a small Clan outpost in Greater Tir. We waited until most of the player clanners were gone and the strongest defense was the outpost watcher (AI controlled). Then we attacked. We shouted like madmen "Death to clanners!", "Blood for Victory!" and shit like that. These dudes were propaby buying medikits or hamburgers or stuff like that and they totally crapped their pants at first when we assaulted. We didn't win though, the AI guy was too strong. We got 2 health bars off from him, 'till the player clanners realized the situation and joined in the fun. So it was more like 6 vs. 15 towards the end and we all died - a warrior's death it was. Damn. It was fun. Propably dragged a couple of clanners down with us, too.

I fat russian engeneer Kharnov on the Rubi 2! I will have built the weapon and summon cyber-robot-dragon lvl 30+, but people who play this game american capitalist numbskulls and I will not make weapon upgrades for them! Hah! I rp in ooc trade, and shout curses and people say "You will be bann" and I scoff at them and give them the virtual finger becaus I have the Comp Literacy skill 200, so I can hack the mission terminal to play Worlds of Wordraft.

Meh, even EQ did that STAY IN CHARACTER crap. After a while, it just gets annoying when people run up to you saying, "Hail, Ranger!" rather than any other form of greeting because "Yo!", "Howdy!", "Hey there!", etc. isn't acceptable.

PS. I've got a mission to scan an alien spider. I have a scanner. What the fuck do I do with it? I can't put it in my hand, and right clicking the scanner does jack shit with or without one of those alien bitches selected.

It's kinda complicated at the beginning but once you get the hang of it, the whole system works pretty logically. Btw, saint, I wouldn't stay long in the newbie island if I were you. Join Omni-Tek and get the hell out of there. We could go and kill some dirty clanners together some time.

I'm now a Unit Commander in my organization, wozzaah Which practically means I'm a fucking desk-jokey, the recruitment officer who walks around asking if people would like to join, explaining the benefits and trying to overcome their doubtfulness. Is it even possible to be a loner, not join a clan and have fun anyway? Is there any "goal"? DAoC had this neato realm vs. realm thing. Does AO have anything similar?

Yeah, it is. You choose sides between Omni-Tek, the Clans or neutrals. Each keep their own kind warm and fuzzy and shit, but you can play a loner in every one of them. If you really, really want to do the loner thingy, you'll side with the neutrals of course, "cuz they just don't chair". You can go anywhere, because neutrals aren't really enemies with anyone, but you don't get the usual side choosing special benefits (xp bonus, missions, equipment etc.) Also being a "true neutral neutral" character leaves you out of all kind of power struggle, so for most of the time you'll be kicking AI-butt instead of enjoying the MMO-part of an MMORPG...

On an occasion alien ships land in the big cities or countryside and huge swarms of aliens try to take over that specific area. Sometimes player-owned (and why not AI controlled) cities are under attack by the opposing force. I've lead a couple of raids against the clans myself - got awfully butchered both times, but at least I took some down with me. And well, all the regular FedEx-/kill this guy there and then-/use object X on object Y- quests you have in normal (less than) average RPGs get a lot more interesting when you get several other people to join you. The humane factor matters a lot.
