How serious do you take school?

Don't mock psychology, it's cool.sprog wrote:I understand where you're coming from with psychology, I find it a very dry subject for some reason. However, if you can force yourself to study it avidly while you must, I do not think you'll regret it. While it may not be "useful" to you in the long run, you may be glad that you didn't sleep through it.
Besides, don't you wanna know stuff?

Learning is a good thing, since the more you know the better you understand stuff that is based on formerly learned stuff, no matter how uninteresting it may seem at first sight, it may work out in the long run.
I was one of the laziest people in school, though, the one with the most "missing days" (is that the right word?) probably, but I liked school since my colleagues were for the most part pretty cool and the girls were nice.
edit: what the hell, someone stole my custom title.
I enjoy reading articles and books that pertain to the subject of my study. My interests extend well beyond the field of science that it covers though. This often times results in a schedule that puts too much emphasis on reading stuff covering irrelevant but intriguing subjects, for my personal entertainment, at the cost of my understanding of the stuff I am expected to be in control of.
I like reading about the ww2 era, about medieval European society and warfare, ethymology, genetics, microbiology and a whole bunch of other topics. Quite a diverse, incoherent bunch of themes hm?
As I said, I find it difficult to confine myself to one subject for an extended period of time. Consequently my method of studying isnt very effective. It takes time to fully acquaint yourself with a given subject whereas I usually tend to quit after having read through a fraction of it. I learned something....but just part of the bigger picture, often times not enough to fully grasp a system or network described.
I need some coffee.

As do I, but it has become the life goal for populace at large. Along with that weird facination of religion.Lynxer wrote:Money? That's the pinnacle of what a man (or woman) can reach in life? I detest people who;s only ambition is to make money.
If only the populace at large wasn't such a bunch of fucking morons.

I worked hard for my degrees, and will continue working hard for some more. Maybe even some from, like, accredited colleges, and not my buddy at Kinkos.
Seriously, I used to have responsibility issues, whereby I put in more hours in at my fastfood shit job than at my college career. At any rate, I left HS with all sorts of accolades and college credits and stuff, but then I was in college, humping 80 hour work weeks for less money than I made temping for the 2000 Census and getting Incompletes and F's and such. So I looked in the mirror and I asked myself, is this me?
Saved up a year's pay, quit with a veritable coup at my job, leaving in grand fashion, and didn't work for one year. Just school. It was heaven.
Working full time and going t school full time s simply nuts. I couldn't handle it, and my hat's off to anyone who can.
Oh, and can you admin guys change my tag to 'Rustbelt Princess'? That would be awesome. 'Long-Haired Motherfuck' would also be acceptable...

I am currently attending a public, Swedish junior high school (well, the equivalent) and therefore do not have to take school seriously to get very good grades and get into a respected, private school. It wouldn't even pay to put more effort in studying in public school at this level. With classes being increasingly adapted to the less talanted students (with some exceptions in my case, this being mainly Swedish and English, but that has more to do with luck concerning which teacher you get than anything else) many have to learn most things after school. With the ambitions I have, this includes myself, when it comes to language, law, critical thinking, argumentation, etc. Fortunately, this will change at the gymnasium I'm going to.
For example, the most important things to do in order to achieve good grades in English in the national tests (fortunately only a small number of tests are national) is to be "self-confident" and to "show good will", and not being good at English. I am lucky enough to have a teacher who thinks this is bullshit, and is extremely good in general, but as I said, that is being lucky in the Swedish school system.
And if this wouldn't be enough: If the Social Democrats get it their way they will remove all grades except Pass and Fail, and thus even further limit the amount of academic performance that is actually registered and rewarded. This is, purportedly, done so that the lesser students will not be offended and to avoid putting students in different groups. I'm glad I'll be leaving this sinking, Communist system in a matter of weeks.
Anyway, I have my ambitions set on studying law, either in Sweden or in Britain, and therefore I will have to work very hard and take school very seriously in the following years. But then I am interested and motivated, as well as will be going to a very good gymnasium, so I'll be up for it.

It ain't the money so much as it's the stuff that I buy with it. I enjoy things that I have, as methinks we all do, and money is a means to an end: my time. Media that I pay for, assorted gadgetry, various doohickies with little to no practical utility, some halfway decent clothes, a driveable car. Hey big spender...
In the long run, I'd like to have enough money so as not to be a burden on society when I'm old [no elderly welfare like medicare and social security], and to live confortably in the time I have. My dream is to buy enough acreage in a place like Montana where I can live in total solitude. I want to be able to look out my front door and see trees. No neighbors, no nothing. Bliss...
I'm no goddamned Bolshevik. I don't blame people for working three jobs and selling Avon on the weekends to 'get ahead.' It's just not my thing. Personally, I don't blame people for beng greedy-- I simply don't care. So, since anyone can't come up with something better, Go Capitalism Go!
Oh and thanks for the tag change. I'm a beautiful butterfly now!!
