No matter what I do, I cannot get into this game. The story is okay, but the interface sucks and it confusing. I donno, I just have trouble immersing myself in it, so I can't play it for longer than like 20 minutes at a time.

For me it's the graphics and tech. Sucks but I do have some graphic whore in me which makes playing games greater than 4 years old hard.

It's not the graphics I mind (though they do suck, and if they were better I would probably have less trouble getting into the game). Call me a simpleton, but the interface is one of the clunkiest pieces of shit ever. Moreover, the game engine is really stupid. I hate the way the character moves (really slowly compared to most FPS's), which really ruins the tension of combat for me. I mean, shit, most of the zombies are like just as fast as you; that ain't right. I miss They Hunger.

First, they're not zombies. They're supposed to be as fast as you, so they can run after you and kill you and shout nonsensical party lines at you while you bleed to death. Second, it's an RPG interface, and it does takes some getting used to, but SS1 was a thousand times worse. Did you go through the training mode first? It makes the interface much less intimidating.
Remember! Not your typical FPS.
And if you want better graphics, download Rebirth. I thought we went over this.

Well, technically, they are zombies but you're pretty much correct on every other point.
Though, interface differences aside, SS1 is ten billion times better than SS2.

They're mutants, dammit, not revived corpses.
And comparing SS1 to SS2 is a fool's errand, because they come from such different contexts. SS1 was years ahead of its time in terms of gameplay, but SS2 provides a more immersive (and scary) experience, largely due to the improved graphics and sound. Six of one, etc.

System Shock 2 is indeed frightening, but after a while it gets tired due to the rather linear progression of the game and reliance on scripted scenes. System Shock 1, on the other hand, is way more open to you and things are more free overall with very little in terms of scripted scenes. I was frigthened by the first "ghost" in SS2 the first time, then the next time it kinda shook me, but by the third time I expected it and thought nothing of it. SS1 has consistently scared me even after my 5th or 6h playthrough of it.
I will say that the portion of SS2 where you have to go into the storage facility with all the wacked-out service bots is undoubtedly one of the scariest moments in gaming ever, though.

Whatever mang. I just didn't jibe with the atmosphere that much. I'm sure I could have gotten used to the interface, but again, it felt clunky and was another thing preventing me from getting immersed in the game.
And my comment about moving about in the game world feeling artificial and clunky still sounds. Combat should feel frenetic (one of the things HL did very well), not... clunky.
