I loved Civilization 2/3 (never played 1) and found 4 a good attempt but failed in key places. Never got to five or whatever its on these days. But yeah. Galactic Civilizations 2 seemed like Civilization in space, but retarded. No building towns, just using randomly generated planets with randomly generated usable tiles. And the tech trees were a joke. A billion races with one tech tree may as well be one race.

The one awesome thing was the ship customizing.

Supreme Commander, on the first try, was kind of shitty.

But the day after I tried it again and I must say my opinion changed. It's great, so far. I'm at the second misson of the UEF campaign and I like how your objectives grow as well as the map. At the second misson, already, it's not a "build a barrack, train 4 of that unit, and eliminate the ennemy base". They kept that for the first map and even then it goes over it rather quickly.

Of course the graphics are great, even if everything isn't maxed out(what a computer this game needs, though!!). I like how(so far at least), you don't need to be hooked on to the game and extremely attentive to be good and how the victory doesn't rely on 28 clicks in the first 4 seconds of the game. Hell, in Starcraft you could win just by sending your 4 SCVs to gather ressources faster than your opponents.

More coming later.

It definitely grows on you. All in all I do enjoy it very much, I just wish I had a monster computer to play the game on high (or even medium) settings on the sort of maps the campaign puts you on. Late in the mid sized maps with just myself and one AI my rig starts to chug.

Part of my settings are high, some are medium. I guess I could put everything at high if I lowered the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768, but once you get used to an higher res, it's hard to go back down.

Ya wohl, that's probably part of my problem, I run it at 1280x1024 as well.

Also there is a patch out to deal with the mega-UI for anyone who thinks that that is gamebreaking.

What the hell is a UI?

And the patches are like only on some server you have to log in with your cd key or whatever, aren't they?

A lot of people complained it was too big and chunky and wasted precious space. Even here. In the last thread about the game. I thought it was nice. I agree, big, but that's what 1280/1024 is for. Also yes, User Interface. Good god we need to teach you english. Damn French. Bring me a baguette or two and come on over. Oh, and cheese.

Thanks

And jet, didn't people used to call that a GUI and not a UI? I had a vague impression it was the same thing but why the hell change all of a sudden?

UI is the more general term, a User Interface is not necessarily a Graphical User Interface, it could be text-based for instance. :dos:
