People are buying Neverwinter Nights? News to me! :ps4ur0n27 wrote:Lionheart won't have any success due to it's outdated graphics, maybe it would have been appropriate to release a game like this 2 years ago, a bit after BG2, but now that NWN is out, no one will buy Lionheart.
So much for that...
I played the Lionheart demo. Several times. I played the NWN demo. Only once. Know why? Because despite the fact that the NWN demo gave a more accurate representation of what the final game would be, it's simply not as fun to play as Lionheart. The combat is wierdly lacking... I can't even put my finger on it. Not to mention the fact that the enviroments i've seen so far look dull and badly textured. Full 3d my ass... sure, if they can make it look good that's all fine and dandy... but NWN doesn't. No point in making a graphical upgrade that makes it look worse. Lionheart's graphics though are at least interesting to look at. You can't rotate the camera or any other fancy jazz, but you can't in Fallout either, and I don't really recall anyone here blasting that for it's bad graphics.

Not as many nerds as there used to be.
Lionheart won't be a commercial success because it's a niche title. But I can see it gaining a repectable following, similar to Arcanum. NWN only sold because of the D&D name; the game itself is really quite bland. It's customizable, but who has time for that? Everything about NWN was half assed, from the graphics to the weak single player experience. Lionheart looks great to me, I like my color palattes dismal, and the graphics seem to be well detailed and interesting. It is tailored to a certain type of fan, but there aren't many of us left. Which means sales and marketing probably weren't the first things on their minds, and it's a labor of love. Lionheart, Viewtiful Joe, and Lament of Innocence look set to be my favorite new games.

After I checked your other posts about the demo I figured you're quite deaf to pretty much any kind of criticism. I can't see why because in my eyes, Lionheart is nothing but a horribly arcade-like parody of an RPG, but at least I can somehow relate to your attitude in general since I have a similar one, when it comes to Planescape: Torment. So, no more comments from my side, except for one big plea:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE STOP DRAGGING ARCANUM INTO THIS DISCUSSION!
Arcanum, with all it's faults, bugs and horrible combat, still deserves better than to be compared to the fucking Lionheart demo. Thanks.

Im not sure. I never really followed the game to begin with but decided to download the demo anyway. Its interesting and all, Im really quite fond of the concept and at a higher resolution I think the game itself will look good but the combat is what's bugging me. The SPECIAL system, even in this form was clearly never meant to be real-time and I hope like hell there will be a turn-based combat option. The interface was annoying at times too but the biggest grief I have about it is that its increadably difficult. I made a pure fighter character with ranks into all the fighting stats and skills as high as I could get them but he cant hit worth crap! He justs sits and swings his little sword as hard as he can while a single wolf at half his level count beats the shit out of him not just once but four times before I managed to get a critical. The other thing is the pausing. Where do they get the idea that you can pause and issue commands and whatnot? (I only think the devs said this, and cant be bothered to check at the moment) You cant issue an attack command, you cant tell the character to move, you cant tell the character to use a spell, all you can do is drink a potion and change the spell you have in the readied slot all the while trying to see around the huge "pause" in the middle of the screen. Dont get me wrong, I love the concept and will probably buy it someday but unless they drasticly fix a number of things and have a slew of features that need to be implemented theres no way Im going to pass upp Half Life 2 or the PC version of KOTOR for Lionheart.
