Let´s cut the anti-pro-anti crap and go to the point.
Obviously the judge is a person and that person has it´s own opinions and ideas. But he is constrained by the position he occupies. In general terms he can not express his opinion but the opinion of the court he presides. IE, he can not give a death sentence even if he thinks the guy deserves it but the law doesnt contemplate it. And in his speech he will of course introduce his own style and opinions but he is still constrained by the law. A judge may be for example a racist but he can not give a racist speech to a "colored" accused. The judge is not suposed to be a machine who automatically hands out verdicts or speeches. He is supposed to be an exceptional member of his society, he must represent the ideals of his community and be therefore the best interpreter of the law of his people.
In this case I personally think that he had of course all the right to do his speech and I liked it to. But I stress again that it may or not be his personal views but it certainly must be the opinion of the society he represents.
Remember Richard Reid?
My only argument is that there's a time and place for Judge Joe Bloe to state the court's opinion, and there's an entirely separate time and place for Mr. Joe Bloe to state his own personal opinion. It's quite unprofessional to mix the two.
Now explain to me how I'm being anti-American by saying that.

The difference here is that I think the comments he made are in line with the case at hand. It may be or not a good speech but it was in line with his role.
As for being anti american I leave that for others to explain for I have no idea either.
Note: I´m not anti american or pro, in fact I care as much about americans as I care about ozzies, not much.

Carpe jugulum.
First off, nothing. No one said you were. This is the second time you thought a post ( probably mine again ) was directed at you. There are other people here besides you, you know.Ozrat wrote:My only argument is that there's a time and place for Judge Joe Bloe to state the court's opinion, and there's an entirely separate time and place for Mr. Joe Bloe to state his own personal opinion. As for the judges speech, as Grey said, he represents the opinion of society...its not as if anyone really feels the opposite about what he said. I'm dumbfounded as to how people find this inflamatory, at least to them. Why would this bother anyone? He's speaking to a 'bad person', and telling him, and all other bad people that they will have no voice in our society.
So what?
See our point now? The simple FACT that this rather benign speech made people here, the ones primarily anti-american, angry, shows that there IS indeed an arbitrary hatred or intense dislike for the US from those people. The fact that this speech offends them somehow, CONSIDERING that he was speaking to a TERRORIST who tried to BLOW UP A PLANE shows that they only care to feel anger towards the US than towards the bad guy, simply because its the US.
Do you honestly feel the judge really did anything wrong? ...if so how does it affect you in ANY way?
As I stress again, the judge did nothing wrong technically nor legally, so its ridiculous for you guys to say otherwise especially since you're not even American. Again, it just shows the "arbitrary hatred( or dislike ) for Americans.
Its just fascinating that you guys are more moved by the fact he gave a speech rather than against the person he was giving it to...the guy trying to blow up a plane. Again shows poor direction in your priorities.
NOTE TO OZRAT : You are not the only person on the earth ( or in this forum ) so before you get defensive, this post was directed at the general forum audience, not just to you, and probably not even to you at all.
Cheers
Well, you did generalize, and I was one of the posters who opposed your view, so I'm only trying to state that what I'm saying has nothing to do with blind anti-Americanism and actually has some reasoning behind it.
You can say whatever the fuck you want about America and that's fine with me as long as it actually has some fact and logic behind it.
EvoG, I hope that you understand that I'm just trying to clairify my side of the argument here and I have nothing against you besides the fact that you are one greedy motherfucker who won't release some screenshots to us.

I totally agree with Oz here (yaoutch), and it just sum up everything I said earlier.Ozrat wrote:My only argument is that there's a time and place for Judge Joe Bloe to state the court's opinion, and there's an entirely separate time and place for Mr. Joe Bloe to state his own personal opinion. Also, I doubt 100% of the american people are as patriotic as this judge, and I doubt his speech represent how the whole american society feels.
You are generalizing as much as USA haters do.
